Looks very nice! And together wih an adapter you have the possibility to use LEICA M lenses! Finally you have then a “M-like” Camera with EVF! Limiting factor is only the crop 2 which restricts the wide angel area. But nevertheless, thats an interesting camera, which looks IMHO more better then the G1 from Panasonic. Because there is no “must” for this new generation for “mirror free” SLR to look like a SLR!

Well that’s the point! It looks just like an ordinery PS! It’s perfect for street and all other types of photograpy, becuase you don’t gather attention with it. And it will give you all the cotrol a normal DSLR gives you. It’s perfect.

I don’t digg the design that much. It looks pretty… plain, much like a point and shoot.

I don’t think it will give you any more control than a g10.

i really dont care about the viewfinder thing, really. i have a rangefinder, and an olympus one at that, the 35-sp, and use it with film a lot. i just hope that the new ep1 will have accurate+fast af with the primes they’ll be makin for it. after a year or so with the 35sp, the 20/1.7 panny sounds a lot better than the 17/2.8. the vf would have added to price and complexity and one doesn’t really need that for this type of camera. i mean really, you want a viewfinder, you need another camera. as it is the ~1000$ asking kit price is a bit steep. i’ll give it some time and maybe get one when they have a few lenses released with the thing. maybe see what panny has installed for end of year or early 2010 when they might be announcing a compact body of their own.
anyway, i want to congratulate oly for the work. the camera is sleek. very very cool design work. i hope it’s functional and sturdy enough. the competition, eg sigma, is somewhat flimsy on that chapter. as far as i can tell, the ep1 seems solid. hope it delivers on the iq as well. if it can give me iso 1600 6mp pictures as clean as the nikon d40 and i’m a happy chap. add to that in-body stabilization and i’m sold.
oly looks good with their new line to come. good for them!

Olympus EP1+ panasonic’s yet to come 20 1,7 Pancacke and you can forget about low end DSLR and Leica’s (I hope olympus added a silent shutter!).

Still I wouldn’t part with my Canon 5D Mark II. EP1 for Casual with high demands (you go out to have a nice evening and you really don’t want to lug a DSLR around) + the Canon for when I want to “go out to take pictures” and make no compromises.

If you haven’t noticed yet, those sites are about rumors, not about camera design and I never pretended to be an expert in this area. In the above post I was referring to the external design of the camera, since it is obvious that we don’t know anything else at that point. Just FYI: the purpose of publishing a personal opinion on a blog is to trigger a discussion – I hope it all makes sense to you now. After all, your comment was just that as well – an opinion that probably nobody that comes here cares about.

I too have high expectations about this camera. A rangefinder is something I miss in digital( and Leica M8 is just too expensive to be a real alternative).

What I’m worried about are the price of this new Olympus, and the lens they are going to design for it. I hope we get to see some fast primes.

ill agree with you about tha design….. but your readers dont care about your personal opinion…and your excpectation ofcourse…especially when you are someone that had prove a lot of times that you dont have any idea about the history and design of cameramakers ( nikons for sure…)

so… keep with the good work…
