Canon got a lot of the foundation stuff worked out via the G10 - photo quality is amazing - see http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/kidding.shtml I suspect the good part of amazing image quality is due to the lack of mirror box induced vibrations. Shutter vibration can also affect - Contax film SLRs had amazing shutters for night sky star photography due to extremely low induced vibration.
