Any full-frame sensor with 12-24 MP at $2000 would be welcomed by the crowd.

no the A900 do not outresolves Nikon and Canon and I prefer a Canon 5 D Mark II than the A900
Let's see what will come from Sony and Leica ... the Leica S2 at 18000 euro (or dollars) is not in competition with Nikon and Canon

Disagree. Can hand hold the 70-400G at 1/15 approx 80% of the time (depends on my caffeine intake)... and that's 5 stops+ Trust me. In-body stabilization works JUST fine. And, frankly, show me a stabilized fisheye lens or any other angle of coverage wider than 24. People say you don't need it.... oh but you can SO use it well...

And to STJ: I would tend to agree with you on a certain level but I think it's pretty clear that, for the money, the A900 offers quite a bit more value for the dollar. The D3X is simply not worth anything more than, POSSIBLY, $5999. Period. I don't care how much Sony is charging for that sensor.

I'd rather see something better than the D3 or 1dIII. Sony certainly lacks a speedy camera to compete!

The d700 is already somewhat affordable as it is ($2300USD), so it seems it won't be all that long before it sits at the $2000 mark.

A 24 megapixel full-frame camera that comes in at $2000 or less would certainly be exciting to many.

"The A900 outresolves the Nikon D3X"????
Try to look at bit on: http://www.dxomark.com/ and see that this is simply not the case. Not that the A900 is a bad, it's very good for the cost, but I guess that to some extend you get what you pay for....

I only touched the A900 once on a Sony booth, but I felt it was really appealing.
The viewfinder was much brighter than any other from Canon/Nikon. I still prefer the viewfinder of my Pentax 67ii tho.. MF rulez da world :))

This is a power cell issue, not a sensor issue. Hence the cameras that are already using the D5000 sensor (see the A700) do NOT have a failure issue. Therefore this is a strictly Nikon issue. Sony's had sensor recalls in the past... this one's not on them.

Well the A900 outresolves both the 1DSMkIII and the D3x in linear resolution for considerably less money. It has better onboard flash processing and color accuracy than the Canon, and is far simpler to set up and use on the fly than the Nikon.. and it offers 3.5 stops of stabilization built in, something neither Nikon nor Canon can offer. It may not have the ISO 3200 output of either company but for $5k less I find that to be far more exciting than either the D3x or the 1DsMkIII... and that's on an existing model.
