Yes they did...Panasonic on FZ30/FZ50...wheel that controls aperture, wheel that controls shutter speed, zoom ring, focus ring.
Anyway, that control ring on S90 should be stepped and not stepless-fluid to have good control. I'm not buying it anyway, I'm just throwing my opinion.
It's good that they work on lowering the mpx, but they should also work on speed of focus and control.
I've played recently in a store with EVERY p&s they had on display...I'd have hard times choosing one that's not slow or operates like a 5 yrs old camera.

The s90 is the most interesting camera of the lot.

It's a little cheaper and more pocketable than the G11 with the same sensor.

The two huge pluses over the G11 -- a faster lens -- f2.0 -- and a customizable control ring that is concentric to the lens. You can set it to control ISO, exposure compensation, manual focus, white balance or zoom settings.

I think -- not sure even after reading a few "hands on" previews -- that it also control aperture in aperture priority mode, and shutter speed in shutter priority mode.

I can't believe no manufacturer ever thought of the control ring idea before. On a tiny digital camera where you can only put so many buttons or wheels, it seems like such a no-brainer.

Could it be they are making room for something new, like an EOS R model?

This camera is a slap in the face. It's just catching up with the competition from last year. WOW, brutal.
