It is defiantly not Samsung, I think they just divorced, it is very probable from the speaks to be a Sony, but native ISO 100-6400 with expansion to 12000 is something astonishing!

What I found interesting is that it is powered by normal AA batteries and not an expensive custom fit Lithium rechargeable pack. Camera manufacturers must make a fortune selling those custom battery packs – kinda like the the ink jet cartridge business. Nice to see a return to lower cost standard sized AA batteries.

The camera must be setup to use 5v (or less) whereas other DSLRs use 7.2v and higher. As the voltage goes down the current drain must go up to get the same power, yet the Pentax specs posted indicate a huge number of frames per set of batteries. This means very low power circuitry, which could also indicate much lower noise levels from the sensor – a new DSLR sensor design???? Samsung??? Sony???

I find it amusing that this thread is about probably the least important thing about a camera. The important thing is how pretty the pictures it takes are. Another important characteristic is how it feels in your hands, and frankly I’d rather have a camera shaped for how it fits my hands than how it looks sitting on a table.

I’m curious about it’s performance relative to the K-7 (and my K20) regarding high ISO noise (why don’t they have a standard SNR measurement?), auto focus speed/accuracy, and metering.

Yes, it replaces the K-m/K2000. The exterior is the same in both.

Anyhow, Pentax isn’t ugly, it’s just left in the dust by Nikon and Canon. Sift through the dust and you’ll see the beauty.
