If the A750 is a full-frame, I’m going to be extremely disappointed. I have a lot of glass (all right, plastic!) for the APS-C sensor so the A750 would be off limits. Surely Sony must be aware of the investment that lots of people have in lenses for this format? And what’s to be gained with a full-frame 14.6MP sensor?

As far as I’m concerned, the APS-C sensor in conjunction with proper image-processing software produces excellent results, even at larger print sizes. I’ve had 18×12″ prints that I couldn’t fault one bit.

What I want is the more advanced autofocus that the newer cameras have, better coping with high contrast conditions and either built-in or a GPS accessory to make documentation of photos easier.

I’ve read 2 previews in photomagazines about A550 and both of them pointed out that VF in new Sony DSLRs is very good, and that it’s brighter than in previous Sony ASP-C DSLRs. So… sorry, but the guy at Luminous Landscape seems to be wrong (that’s perhaps he works with FFrames all the time – which are uber-superior in matter of VF to any ASP-C DSLRs (maybe besides C 7D) )

Probably no-one is ever going to read this comment, since the story is old, but I went to a local reseller and checked out an A500 for myself. Contrary to the L-L preview mentioned above, I did not find the viewfinder to be especially small or dim. I would say that it’s very similar to a Canon T1i or Nikon D5000. One issue is that the eye relief seems a bit short, but I think this is because my nose hits the articulated LCD and I can’t get my eye close enough to the viewfinder.

So it’s not terrible, but it’s not as good as a Nikon D90 either.

It’s OBVIOUS FAKE – why?
Someone used photoshop to move the cameras from one place to another and change color of A700 lens – come on people…. dont’ be blind…. A700 won’t look IDENTICAL to A700 with only reflections color changed.

Yep, your right about that.

From The Luminous Landscape:

“I’m not going to pull any punches. The A550′s viewfinder is the smallest and dimmest that I’ve ever seen. Other Sony consumer models with Live view are similar.”

“It is appallingly bad. Think of looking into a dark room though a hole with a small window visible on a distant wall. That’s what the viewfinder looks like.”

That was enough to put me off the A500/A550. Hopefully the A750 will be better.

Not one of which make up for the fact that, out of the camera, the A550 takes a superior photo, flash used or otherwise. I know, I’ve both in my kit as we speak. I agree about the build but then I shot in blizzard conditions with the two side by side and the D90′s lcd fogged while the Sony’s did not. So construction can be subjective for sure: They’re both polycarbonate and un-sealed. The dual card slots on the A550 are a major boon, the live view kills the D90 at 4.5 fps IN live view. If I turn off the AF and switch to speed priority, I can get 7fps in live view. I’ll trade video all day for 4 stops of in-body IS (that works, no hype), and since neither sees more than 96% in the viewfinder anyway, the size of the finder makes no nevermind to me. Actually, the LiveView on the 921k screen is phenomenal and the responsiveness is out of control. Also the HDR feature actually works once you understand the need to expose for the highlights… and it does a damn good job. No the A550 breaks a lot of barriers and I’m sold on it. I like my D90 fine, good show and all… but the A550 is a better camera.

I thought the A850 did the less-is-more theory quite well. Still, it’s 24.6mp, though, and that portion of things ain’t cheap. Neither is magnesium… but it’s a camera’s camera for sure.

People, if the A500 and A550 haven’t shown enough “innovation” for you at their pricepoints, then you deserve to go with a run of the mill big two camera. Extrapolate from the A500 and A550 and the proposed A750 is going to be pretty special.

Cashing in an going with a D90? Seriously? When, with the exception of Video, the A550 pretty much stomps it? Your brand name weakness is appalling. That’s not photography, that’s consumerism run rampant. If your gear isn’t doing what you’re telling it to do: learn how to speak more clearly.

The 14.6 MP was mentioned as expected resolution, but this was/is just a guess. I do not think Letsgodigital will fake that photo, but I do find it weird that they did not provide a link from where the screenshot was taken (I aways do). I noticed also that Letsgodigital started to report rumors in the past few days but they do not provide any links to the source of the info or the website. I will try to contact them for more info (we’ve been in touch before).

If it were FF it would be nice, but I guess it’s just an a700 update with the a550 DX sensor, meaning 14.6 MP sensor but 14.2 million effective pixels

As far as I know Sony doesn’t have a 14 MP sensor, they’ve got the 12 MP as in Nikon’s D700 and D3 and the 24.something MP in their FF-lineup and Nikons D3x. If they wanted an even cheaper FF DSLR, they’d probably take the 12 MP sensor from the Nikons – no R&D costs, economy of scales big time already – and put it in an a850 body.

I agree, this picture doesnt prove anything, especially not if they say it will contain a 14.6 MP FF sensor. Probably will it make smoothies as well

Well, based on the look of the a750 i’d say it’s a dx camera, I just don’t se how they’ll fit a large prism (look at the a850 and a 900) in that small body!

Please someone enlighten me!?

Why on God’s Earth would the A700 follow-up be full frame? Have some common sense people, Sony barely released the A850, which is already the least expensive FF digicam. Where exactly would they have to price a FF A750?

I was wondering that myself. I call fake on this one. It looks like they just put an A700 up there, changed the hue on the lens glass, and slapped the “new” graphic from the A850 next to it. There is no way a full frame prism is fitting into the small hump on top of that camera. Besides, why is the graphic so small? If that is really a screen capture from sony.net they should have no problem producing an 800px wide version.
