Well ,maybe not the ugliest but certainly ugly
Plusof limited appeal except maybe to compete with GH1 as the faux prism is not what drives the market in this segment

Disagree with Globalguy:
people stepping up from P&S are not ready to spend so much money on this camera, which will be quite more expensive than any entry level dsrl on the market. Those entry level dslr will not be much bigger, will be sold in bundle with two zooms (e.g. 18-55/55-200, or the like) for, probably 50% less than the proposed Samsung with basic lens. I do not see Joe Average buying it…

This is targeting people who would either buy a D40 or a Rebel — OR — a fatty point-and-shoot. Samsung is obviously trying to bridge the gap. It can’t be judged against the D300 — it should be expected to feel and look somewhat lower than a D40/Rebel and somewhat more complicated and technical than a point-and-shoot.

I believe Samsung has achieved what they were going for. If you are a DSLR lover, you probably cannot rightfully judge this camera. You need to think from the perspective of someone who is a point-and-shoot user, who wants something a little more “pro” (very loosely). This is possibly even an alternative camera for someone who otherwise only uses their phone’s camera.

Lets not judge this against the D3s.

they will realize in few years what bubble it is, let them burn (in case of samsung and others – yet again)

It looks like ANY “D40″ “Rebel” class dslr to me. It also looks like ANY “fatty” point-and-shoot with a huge range lens built in.

So I really dont know how you can say this is ugly. Is the D40 or the Rebel pretty?? I don’t think so……. this design is not out of place. Its just. Very average.

Had I been Samsung I would have started with something lighter, and more Ep1 like. This cameras is actually bigger than entry level dslr olys, pentax and probably also than other brand entry level cameras!

Bigger sensor, surely lighter, video, and new electronic controlled lenses system.
This is just the first model, do you remember the first Pana M4/3? well, Samsung will come with a new model then.
Samsung needs compete with all the entry level DSLR, they do not have a entry level DSLR line-up, neither a strong DSLR base.

I think the average person will say just camera, an average newcomer will never use the “word” DSLR.
