The same dpreview user that gave us some accurate rumors in the past is now saying that Samsung will release a new line of point and shoot camera with a Samsung 1/1.8″ image sensor and a fast (f/1.8) lens. This camera is expected to be in direct competition with the Panasonic LX3 and should be released this year.
Going through this user’s dpreview history, there is also some information on the upcoming lenses for the Samsung NX10 for 2010:
- A super zoom lens for video like Panasonic 14-140
- Another zoom lens in very special concept
- 60mm MACRO lens.

A point and shoot with an f1.8 lens?! It’s got my attention if the image quality is there too.
Seeing as i work in a camera store I have to say that most people really dont care about the 1.8. Sure it will be a great feature for enthusiasts and photographers but I cant imagine that being most of there sales. At my store there is often people that come in wanting the best image quality they can find in a small camera, there more concerned with the low light , speed, auto focus, megapixels, and lenght of the lense. Still excited for the 1.8 though but i dread having to explain to people why that makes the camera better.
I see people asking by face detection, more MPx, price and brand on P&S camera more than image quality or AF.
The same target than Pana LX3 will be for this new Samy.
which is a tiny one. My store has sold give or take 15ish s90′s , same amount of g11′s , 50+ high end pannys, and ONE lx3. Just from whatt ive seen so not exactly conclusive but still…
Nice to hear that . If I were Samsung, I would make the lens a prime one similar to DP1s/DP2s, which is 35mm equivalent and then add a wide angle add on lens for option. Schneider is a must on the lens cover. I am really curious about the sensor. It really means something if the sensor is made by Samsung herself but no by Sony, like the one used in Canon G11 or Ricoh GRDIII. Only a homemade sensor can show the value.
