my point exactly. If they don’t want to offer it here, then I’ll get it from Japan. I’ve already talked to Pentax imaging (USA) and they said they would/could facilitate any support issues we might see. They couldn’t promise anything, but they said… hey, give us the opportunity to help you if you have support needs. That’s more than Nikon will do, but of course Nikon has USA support so it seemed this response from Pentax USA was because they don’t have an offering yet. (and may not)

as for my self, canon and nikon can keep their 35mm system and their slow and precalculated progress and funny prices for them self .

This camera represents a smart move for Pentax. Right now, Canon and Nikon own the FF 35mm market, and Olympus/Panasonic own the non-SLR removable lens market. Sony is working hard to gain share in both those markets, so where can Pentax fit in?

Medium format is super expensive right now, and is dominated by small players will little in the way of distribution. Most people have never even touched a medium format digital camera. I believe many pros want a high resolution camera to go with their big printers. We’ll keep the 35FF for what it does well, but want a landscape/studio camera for printing big. We don’t have a lot of choice right now. If Pentax can move quick enough, they will gain a following. They have years of experience in medium format, and I think they can make this work.

I have a 44″ wide printer and have a use for this type of camera. I’ll stop renting MF camera and buy one of these if it meets my expectations, and if Nikon doesn’t enter the market by then.

Keep in mind the Phase One P45+ (still about 3 year old sensor) is at least twice the price even as a refurbished version and probably 3 times the cost for a new sensor/digital back. And all that money for older sensor technology.

Compared to the 645D, the 22MP Mamiya is obsolete; old sensor, old technology – glued together to an old camera. You’d have to pay more than just a few grand for a new digital back only to reach 645D’s resolution. And no camera upgrade is currently available – the 645D AFDIII is their best offering.

for that price i would probably go for a mamiya 22 megapixel mf camera with removable back. I hate the idea of spending a few grand each time a new camera comes out on the body.

I don’t care how ugly it is, just how it performs in the wild. Just hoping it will be offered in the US sooner than later. The price is nice if it’s anything like the specs.
