Do you really think that historical reflex mirror improves image quality somehow? It is good for old fashion film cameras, because you get same sight as it is for film, but I don’t know what is extra value for digital camera. DSLR view sucs anyway (no change for manual focus etc.), so digital live view is allways better I think.

For me these systems have too many disadvantages compared to an entry level dslr (whatever the manufacturer): no distance scale on the prime lenses, no wheels and buttons on the body as shortcuts for manual exposure, iso etc., no built-in viewfinder and higher price. Maybe these differences will disappear sometime in the near future because I’d like to carry around a toy like this and handle it like a dslr, but I’m not too optimistic about this. Why shouldn’t they sell an evf for 180 euros if they can?

No guys, this is a winner. Not the prettiest EVIL camera out there, but the smallest one, and with the 16mm pancake much more portable than any m43 camera. While I agree that the zooms are too big (but also the zooms on the m43 cameras are, it’s just they appear less so because those cameras are bigger) the pancake prime is just lovely. Now, if they manage to produce 1) other small primes (better if zeiss), 2) adapters for all non-minolta mounts, 3) a similar camera with more (much more) control features (= wheals, buttons, etc.), they will have the best compact system out there.
I feel that Ricoh and Samsung are already behind. The only rival for this system is the m43 one(s)…

The larger sensor on this camera means that the lens will necessarily be bigger and heavier than its m4/3 counterpart.

The rumor that Nikon has decided to release an EV-IL camera with a smaller sensor than the m4/3 thus makes sense. A smaller, more compact and lighter lens is critical in this market niche. The challenge is for Nikon to produce photos with image quality equal to or better than the m4/3 cameras with a competitive price as well. If Nikon is unable to do this, it may entirely avoid the EV-IL market segment altogether.

i don’t see anything “APPLE” about this design.
if it were apple, it would have very flat edges and no much bevels and contours. the top plate would have been completely flat.

I’m tempted but I don’t really want to invest into a new camera system. Since I have been diagnosed with acute GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) I just know I will have to buy not only the camera but at least a few different lenses – not sure if I want another system to go with my M42/FD/EOS collection. Come on Canon – please make one of those as well!

Wow thats a pretty amazing looking camera, love the design and look of it, I’m already heart on purchasing a Nikon D5000 in the coming weeks, and don’t think this camera will be out soon enough for me to get a hands on and see if I could be swayed.

The mount and its supporting frame would need to be metal for both cameras, they may use more plastics, but given the low weight of it, the use of aluminum for even the NEX3 isn’t much of a cost over plastic. There is only a dollars worth of aluminum in there. At less then 300gs, even if they used the more expensive magnesium, it wouldn’t be that expensive.

How does this look like anything Apple? Is it white, have a huge logo, and does this camera have an ‘i’ in front of its name?

Also, Apple didn’t invent the touchscreen, far from it, and they’ve been on cameras for the longest time now.

That pancake looks tiny — Probably will balance okay because of such small lens elements. The large zoom however looks unwieldy!

I wonder how much the mount can take – esp. with a 18-200 mm lens. There should be some torque due to the weight of the lens. I also wonder how it is to hold the camera and take pictures. Ricght hand on the grip and left hand always supporting the lens?

That is only one view. The fact is that you can have pancake lenses and a flat body and near the image quality of a small dslr. And that’s pretty great. Would I want it over my D700? No way. Would I want it for when i have no intention of shooting and wont likely see anything interesting? Probably not. (Thats what a P&S is for). Would I want it for going on a trip? ABSOLUTELY.
