Still photography obsolete???

You mean instead of learning, studying, and mastering deliberate composition, etc.. You can just ‘video capture’ and pull out the ‘lucky’ image-frame? Who needs technique? Just point and shoot…….. For a point and shoot, it’s awfully big – that is really supposed to be easier and more convenient?

There are technologies (and therefore patents hence I will not describe) yet to be applied. I can see some well known self confessed web experts poo foo ing the demo with their diffraction this and stabiliser that, but they would be failing to think out side the box. I have a good idea how some of that tech can be realised and I have never seen it mentioned anywhere. I am sure Canon has a good idea too, but patenting now would probably be too earlier given the processing power needed… (was that a clue) )

Quantum leap has happened when we went from film to digital.

The “future” camera will offer super high resolution, image stabilization, video, face detection – sounds like evolutionary descendant of todays tech.

About 10 years ago we had Canon D30 with 3 megapixels at $3000, now we have 5Dm2 with 21 megapixel for $2500. I am sure soon we will have 30 megapixel or higher cameras.

Evolution of semiconductors has been following Moore’s postulate for the past 30 years, and digital cameras are nothing but computers with lenses.

What we need now is a quantum leap in lens technology to keep up with sensors.

Wow, they finally designed a camera I would want absolutely nothing to do with. What an ugly plastic mess. This is what happens when Japanese designers dont have German counterparts to copy.
