It certainly looks nice, too bad it has a small sensor, non-bright lens and interlaced video.
Did you check out the site? It shoots in progressive as well as interlaced.
Good that they fixed the position of the flash and the mics. I would sometimes be covering it up with my fingers
I hate that flash position on cameras. Canon did it too much with the S90/S95 and thankfully the S95 is a bit grippier than the S90, because when that jet-propelled flash pops up, it can knock the slippery S90 camera out of your hand.
Still, ANY manufacturer who puts the flash right on the edge like that, need to make a left-side “nub” made of rubber that juts out a bit for the left-hand index finger to perch. I dont know about tiny hands, but for me its necessary.
I absolutely hate the flash on the S95 for that reason and wish Sony and Canon would give up a perfect streamline in order to satisfy an actual need — being able to handle the camera well. Furthermore, than flash should be able to be “pushed” down into place or stopped from popping up by holding it down. I don’t like that its so mechicanically fixed that it must pop up. If Sony has more flex to the flash it might be OK compared to the S95. S95 is an excellent camera, just the flash alone irks me, because the flash is terrible due to position and drive pop and inability to just push it back down.
You’d think that the mics would be pointed in the direction as the lens and not on top of the camera
Or at least able to be rotated front to top. (Event capture vs. narrator capture).
1080/60p video?
Doesn’t sound right to me.
but it is same with the TX100
and the white camera on top is the HX7 with also a 920k pixel screen same as the HX9
I posted it because it is the only picture I found with then new screen in action
thanks Joe, the backs looked identical – keep me informed in the future if you learn something new

how does 28 Mb/sec sound?
IMHO, the dial and button locations are pretty awkward. For example, the Custom button is next to the Power On-Off; the Movie button in the upper-right corner is activated by thumb which also suppose to hold the camera; the shutter+zoom in the middle-top while camera modes on the right. Anyone can explain the necessity to label a microphone location ‘L’eft-’R'ight?
From the appearance, I would rather prefer the similar compact-zoom FujiFilm F550. In any case, the tiny but 16.2 Mpix BSI sensors on both cameras do not appeal to me.
I totally agree with the much better styled Fuji. Looks like a Colani design to me. I put a comparison between the F550 and the HX9 on my blog.
To the buttons, the way they are recessed you do not trigger them by accident – at least not on the HX5.
The label on the microphones is important for people who have a hard time to remember where what direction is – or maybe it is a decision from the same department what decided the next step from 10MP is not 12 but 16.
