Canon 1D MARK IV is also discontinued

In addition to the Canon Speedlight 580EXII, it seems that the Canon 1D MARK IV DSLR camera is also discontinued. Its replacement, the Canon EOS-1D X, was announced in October 2011 and is now shipping in limited quantities.

Wow…the 1D4 was only available for what…2 years??? Not long for a pro model from Canon.

Most of the 1D models were replaced within ~2years

1D models were usually good for 3 yrs, not 2. Just saying.

According to Wikipedia, the 1D models were upgraded every two years, while the 1Ds models were upgraded every three years.

This camera was never a smart buy for the long term investor.

“long term investor?” It’s a pro camera, not a collectible!
If it takes more than a few jobs to pay for itself, you’re in the wrong business.

        quite normal actually.
        1) pay expensive camera from 9-5 job
        2) charge cheap prices for foto jobs
        3) complain about expensive gear
        4) ???
        5) profit

It’s a camera with advanced features, allowing people to use advanced techniques.

If pros use it, then so be it. Most pros only know how to switch to the high speed continuous mode and where the shutter button is.

On the contrary… I think it’s a near perfect pro camera. Or it was.

  • Rover

Bummer… thought it’d stick awhile longer alongside the 1Dx just like the older 1D/1Ds cameras were sold in parallel. I wanted to buy a mark IV someday but now the supply is probably going to run short, driving the price up.
