Nice that Pentax also creates time machines, filling a patent december 3, 2012.

I want to see the patent on that.

7.1, 6.7,5.6… maybe in 2014 Pentax can produce a really fast lens

I don’t know about you, but most very fast SLR lenses of the past belonged to Pentax and companies making lenses for Pentax SLRs …

You are right, but I mean mirrorless zoom lenses. Regretably, is not only Pentax producing such slow lenses, (i.e. the kit zoom for Olympus OM-D).

And Nikon. The best they got is f/2.8

          • Sky

And that’s the prime lens (just one – like in the name of system). Zooms run around 3.5/3.8 at best.

Compact mirrorless lenses are small aperture on the tele end, just how it goes if you want small size. The Nikon 1 lenses are really slow given the small sensor size.

The Pentax Q zoom is f/2.8-4.5 but considering the modest 28-75-ish equivalent range and dinky sensor one might wish it was better (like, say the 24-90-equiv f/2-3.3 of the LX-5).

This really doesn’t extend to just mirrorless though — the same is true of SLR lenses. The typical 18-55/3.5-5.6 kit is MUCH smaller than the faster/higher zoom ratio lens upgrades. I think with mirrorless though people are perhaps a little less forgiving when it comes to bulk because size & weight are an important factor when choosing a MILC system vs. SLR.

I doubt they would launch all those similar lenses… so, which one it’ll be?

With that huge rear element close to the sensor this looks like it is for a mirrorless camera with a short flange focal distance (i.e. not a regular K-mount)

This one is a little more attractive if inexpensive, espec. if bundled in a K-01 (or successor) kit. Nice if a kit lens offers 16mm wide angle.

  • Every mm counts :)

16mm is great for kit lens
