Adorama just confirmed what I first reported back in October last year the US price of the Panasonic GH5 will be $1,999. The battery handgrip will be priced at $349 and the XLR expansion will be $399. The new Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4 Power OIS lens was also listed with a price tag of $999.99.

    $2G for m4/3? C’mon!

Were it not for the Speedbooster, I’d agree with you. As a video shooter, this turns it into a super-35mm equivalent, very well featured compact b-roll camera. So for me, it’s worth the money – though like you, I do wish it were a little cheaper. Perhaps a few months down the line it will be.

GH4 didn’t move in price for years, not substantially anyway.

Consider its feature set for video (4k @ 60p in 10-bit 4:2:2 anyone?) and you would have to pay a lot more to get a comparable camera from sony or canon. Also I think 6k photo mode is a big step up from 4k photo and may interest some people like sports and nature shooters. If I had a lot of money to blow I would be looking pretty hard at one of these for video alone. I don’t think there is anything that comes close to it on price with a similar feature set. Combined with a speedbooster, m4/3 is a very intriguing option for video if you want shallow dof.

    • For 2 grand you can get a full frame camera. It’s so good being stuck in the 2000’s, where ff vs apsc debates was the topic everyone loved to talk about.

      • I think Olympus and Panasonic are testing the market, if they don’t sale enough, their next version will be priced “normal”. I don’t think they will sale many of those – there are so many other cheaper options.

Yes, but there are no FF cameras for $2000, and probably no APS-C ones either than I’m aware of, that offer the video capabilities this camera has out of the box. Nobody buys this camera to take stills.

        • That’s my point. I was mocking the OP who thinks sensors smaller than ff is not worthy. It’s a mentality that was popular years ago.

Difficult to accept for Olympus. But acceptable for the GH5 if it is treated as a video camera instead of a stills camera. As a 6k video cam, There is nothing quite like it at that price and quality (if it carries on the high quality demonstrated by the GH4).
