Hoya’s CEO has indicated in the past that Pentax is for sell. Then there were some statements about a “deeper relationship” with Samsung. It is possible that at some point JVC attempted to buy Pentax – both companies denied it a month later. I am not surprise that different companies are taking their chance at purchasing Pentax. Please note that at this point this is just a rumor.

    This rumor surfaced a month ago and was quickly denied by JVC and Hoya. Today, two different sources (Bloomberg and Asahi) report that JVC was considering purchasing Pentax but those plans were abandoned.

    The rumor is that JVC-Kenwood Holdings is in talks to buy Pentax (source - Google translation). Hoya (the parent company of Pentax) quickly denied that report (source). It is not a secret that Hoya has been trying to do something with Pentax, based on previous history of comments from C-level executives (see here and here). HOYA CEO said “It’s unnecessary to keep Pentax camera division in the HOYA Corporation” (source).
