Okii Systems Releases New MC1 USB Mini Controller

Apex, NC, November 21, 2011 – Okii Systems is pleased to announce the new MC1 USB Mini Controller. The MC1 is a wired USB remote designed for Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras with video capability. Similar to the EOS Utility on a computer, the MC1 uses Canon's USB protocol to allow control of a wide range of abilities, but without the limitations and bulk of being tethered to a computer. When mounted near a rig handle, it provides easy access to camera functions such as video start/stop, digital zoom, and settings changes. The use of USB rather than infrared insures reliable operation regardless of the remote or cable orientation, and makes it possible to use the MC1 at longer distances (e.g., on a crane or boom) with non-powered USB extension cables. An optional automatic recording restart feature is included, which can stop and restart video recording at 11-minute intervals for long film sequences, or can act as a fail safe.

The CEO and founder of RED Jim Jannard promised a "big surprise" at NAB 2011 (April 9-14). RED have "just warmed up the engine" and have big plans for the future:

In the beginning, some said that RED was a scam. Now some say that RED is a one trick wonder. I have said that "the 1st is the worst".

So which is it? Is RED likely to last?

I guess this post is to say that we have more in development than we know what to do with. Our sensor program (the heart of a camera company) is way beyond my wildest expectations. We have stuff in the works that would scare you. I am shocked. Every day I wake up, the realities of what we dreamed are becoming a reality... and more. It is pretty surreal. EPIC (a nuclear reactor in a matchbox) is just the beginning. Hard to believe... but true.

Obsolescence obsolete. All the things we are doing forward work with what we are doing now. That was the concept. That is real today.

I thought I saw the future in 2005 when the decision to build the RED ONE was conceived. I also thought that was a big plan. While I guess it was... I see a much more advanced future now. Stay tuned. We have just warmed up the engine.

CES 2011 is now over. Many compact cameras were announced, but the stars of the show IMHO were the Olympus E-PL2 and Olympus XZ-1. Dpreview has a samples gallery of the Olympus XZ-1. A hands-on of the Olympus E-PL2 can be found on AP. Both Olympus E-PL2 and Olympus XZ-1 cameras are now available for pre-order.

Here is some additional coverage:

• DSLR magazine reports that Panasonic will release a new, optimized for video lens 12-50mm f/2.5-3.3 and Olympus will announce a new M4/3 PRO camera and lenses probably in the second quarter of 2011.

• AP reports that the Sony a700 replacement will probably be released this year (2011) and "it would definitely use the translucent mirror technology", a better EVF, up to 25MP sensor, high ISO settings "up into the hundreds of thousands", magnesium alloy body and price in the range of $1200.

• Sony is also expected to start incorporating more functionality control buttons on their lenses like a 15x magnified view of the frame to ensure accurate focus (possible only with EVF).

• Here is a Sony CLM-V55 external monitor for Alpha DSLR cameras shown at CES 2011.

It was just 10 days ago when the first RED Epic-M camera got shipped and now it's stolen. The above is an actual picture of the stolen camera. The founder of RED Jim Jannard announced a $100,000 reward for the safe return of the camera and conviction of the thieves:

"While it is not usually our position to offer rewards for our customers stolen property, this one is an exception. EPIC #00006 is truly a historic camera. It is the very 1st EPIC shipped to one of our customers and the way it was taken irritates me no end.

We are now offering $100,000 for the safe return of EPIC #00006 and the rest of the system including the media with Mark's files... and the arrest and conviction of those that broke into Mark's chalet in France. We will ONLY pay this amount if there is an arrest and conviction of the parties as we are not interested to be ransomed by thieves.
If you have any information regarding the theft, the location of Mark's property or any details that might solve this case, please contact anyone at RED and they will make sure I hear about it.
