Update:

The new GN15 flash and EVF would cost around $100 or less.

This video shows some of the upcoming Samsung NX products (the previous video was promptly removed):

Speculations of what the different lenses are can be seen here and here (see also the ongoing discussion on dpreview).

One of the lenses in the video looks like the previously rumored 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6. Looking at the picture from the end of the video, the Samsung NX100 appears to be bigger than the NX10. New accessories, like an external flash and electronic viewfinder, are also shown. The NX100 is expected to have the same sensor as the NX10 (14.6MP APS-C CMOS), even though some reports indicated a new 16MP sensor. As previously reported, the Samsung NX5 will not be available in the US.

Expect the official announcement on September 14th, 2010.

Somebody sent me this picture of Samsun NX1000. Looks different than the expected Samsung NX100. I think it’s a PS job (front LCD, WiFi and 3G?)

Rumor: there will be no new professional DSLR from Canon for Photokina. The new 1DS Mk4 is currently being tested but will not be released before mid 2011. It will have a 39 MP sensor.

Samsung’s new opto-electronic viewfinder with transparent AMOLED

This appears to be a new opto-electronic viewfinder (E-OVF) from Samsung with a transparent AMOLED component. If true, this will allow the display of electronic information in an optical viewfinder:

If you remember the leaked picture of the Samsung NX100, there was a big viewfinder attached on top of the camera – maybe this is it?

FYI: Samsung does have a 19″ transparent AMOLED display.

All you need to know about Photokina

Photokina is the biggest show for photography equipment that takes place every 2 years in Cologne, Germany. This year Photokina will be between September 21- 26. Here is a summary of all rumors, predictions and expectations for the main players in the industry:

Canon: Canon G12 is a given, based on previous release patterns (they release a new version every year in September). Low chance for a new small/compact DSLR. Pictures of the Canon 60D are already available online, so you know that one is coming. There could be more PowerShots cameras like the S95, SX30 and SX130. I am sure that Canon will also release new lenses as well but I have not idea what exactly.

Sony: no new Sony full frame camera for Photokina but plenty of APS-C cameras: at least three, maybe even four – A33, A55, A560 and A580. Lenses: new set of Zeiss lenses for the NEX system and maybe a new set of Alpha prime lenses (some of them could be Zeiss).

Pentax: full frame camera from Pentax probably won’t happen this year. There is a very good chance that there will be a new Pentax EVIL camera at Photokina. On the DSLR front Pentax will release new K-5 and K-r models.

Samsung: a new NX100 mirrorless camera, new 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6 and 20mm pancake lenses are expected. A 60mm macro lens is also a possibility.

Panasonic: a new GH (probably called GH2) and a new GF cameras (the GF1 was announced in September, 2009). New m4/3 lenses are also expected: 14mm f/2.5 and the 100-300mm lens.

Olympus: Olympus E-3 successor is certain and probably a new PEN, since they are on a 6 months refresh cycle: the E-P2 was released in November 2009, the E-PL1 was released in May, 2010 – you do the math.

Ricoh: the rumor is that Ricoh will release a Micro Four Thirds module for their GXR system.

Sinar: new digital back.

Metz: will probably release the Mecablitz 58 AF-2 flash.

Lenses manufacturers after the break:

Sigma: Sigma will probably join the EVIL world and will show at least a prototype of a mirrorless camera at Photokina. Besides that, the only other rumor I have is about a new Sigma 300-800mm F/5.6 lens.

Samyang: a new 35mm f/1.4 lens will be announced at Photokina.

Tamron: there were some reprots that Tamron will release lenses for the Sony NEX and Samsung NX mirrorless systems: 24-50mm f/3.5-5.6 VR, 75-200mm f/4.5-6.3 VR and a 90mm f/3.5 VR macro lenses. Another rumor indicated Tamron could start producing m4/3 lenses.

Zeiss: a new Zeiss Distagon ZF 1.4/35 already showed up in some online catalogs.

Tokina: a new Tokina 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ATX840 D zoom lens was rumored a while back.

After the rumor that Canon wants to move to medium format territories, we now have three other companies (Samsung, Schneider – Kreuznach and Alpa) that reportedly want to create a photographic Association (SSA) and produce the first fully digital, medium format camera system. Here the Google translation:

Update #2: the video was of course removed from YouTube.

Update: The first camera on the video is the NX10 with the new compact zoom kit 20-50mm. There are some more new Samsung lenses in that picture:

The two lenses to the right of the NX10 are: in the back the 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6 compact kit zoom and in the front is it the new 20mm pancake (see the full 2010 Samsung NX lens line-up)
The white camera has the new compact zoom kit.
The new cameras has the same design as the Samsung HZ30W.

We already know that the Samsung NX100 will come in white. Here is the proof:

Do you see the three cameras on the right? They don’t look like anything else in the current Samsung line-up and one of them is white. Maybe this is the expected Samsung NX100. The pictured cameras could also be the Samsung NX5.

The previously rumored white Samsung NX100 appeared again on dpreview. This time the image is full size. The picture was reportedly taken during a commercial shoot for the already rumored Samsung NX100. The camera on the photo is definitely different than the previously released Samsung NX10 white limited edition.

Update: I was asked to remove the picture from my website. The image and the entire thread were also removed from the slrclub website. This could mean only one thing – the image was real. Maybe you can still find it on Google (the photo was blurry and parts of the camera were covered)

Digital Holga prototype. Why not?

Did you notice this? The uneventful announcement of the Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR point and shoot camera brought us a new Hybrid Auto Focus System – first in the world:

“Enhanced with built-in phase detection pixels, Super CCD EXR is the first sensor in the world with both contrast and phase detection auto focus. F300EXR harnesses this power with an innovative hybrid AF system that intelligently selects between the two focus systems. In most scenes and especially dark scenes, conventional Contrast AF captures beautiful results, but struggles to find a focus when shooting high-contrast subjects or with a long zoom. Only F300EXR with Hybrid Auto Focus can instantly switch to the speed and accuracy of Phase Detection AF for these scenes. Even at maximum 15x zoom when subject is moving and the moment is fleeting, you won’t miss the shot!

Phase detection sensor pairs on the EXR sensor work like the sensors of a DSLR. Unlike slower Contrast AF which continually adjusts until maximum contrast is detected. Phase Detection AF divides incoming light into image pairs, performs a single calculation of the phase difference to determine the precise direction and amount of focus adjustment achieving an incredible auto focus detection speed of 0.158* seconds.”

Samsung will launch new unbreakable AMOLED plastic panels within 2 years. Mainly targeted for the cell phone industry, but could make its way into digital cameras.

CreativeMayhem talks about a new Canon G12 being scheduled for a September announcement (before Photokina). G11 as announced in August 2009, G10 was announced in September 2008… you see the pattern.

Olympus patent hints at optical viewfinder adapter for MicroFourThirds. What? I thought the whole idea of m4/3 was to remove the mirror, not to add it as an accessory.

4D Dynamics releases a $2000 pico-projector based 3D scanner – the idea is that you can take photos around an object and the additional software turns it into a 3D model:

Rumors that Pentax may join m4/3 with a new camera and 3 lenses are still spreading around. If this happens, there should be some kind of announcement at Photokina.

Few months ago the Samsung NX5 showed up on SamsungImaging website. Today, we have a new hybrid camera Samsung NX100 showing up on Samsung’s global download center:

Based on Samsung’s current model numbering, the NX100 will probably be a high-end version of the NX10, which makes perfect sense with the upcoming Photokina show in September (companies want to show their best products at the biggest photo equipment show in the world).

Previous rumors indicated that a touch screen is a possibility.
