Tokina announced a new 300mm f/6.3 mirror lens for Micro Four Thirds for the CP+ show in Japan:

300mm: focal length (equivalent to 600mm)
Aperture: f/6.3
Lens length: 66mm
Filter size: 55mm
Weight: less than 300g
Manual focus
Equipped with distance encoder, can communicate with the body (Exif, lens information, etc.)
Minimum focusing distance 0.8m
1:2 Macro mode

Tokina also introduced a new AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO IF FX lens for DSLRs.

Last week Kenko announced a new 400mm f/8 mirror lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras.

After Komamura joined the Micro Four Thirds System Standard Group last year, today Olympus announced that Astrodesign, Kenko Tokina and Tamron have also joint the group:

Olympus Imaging Corp. and Panasonic Corporation jointly announced the Micro Four Thirds System standard in 2008 and have since been working together to promote the standard. Now we are pleased to announce that three more companies have recently declared their support for the standard and will be introducing products compliant with the Micro Four Thirds System standard.

Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX Ⅱ lens announced

Tokina just announced a sxecond version of their popular 11-16mm f/2.8 lens. The new lens will have a better performance (ASPH element), new coating and AF motor. No wonder the old Tokina 11mm-16mm f/2.8 lens is currently $40 off (mail-in rebate).

New Tokina AT-X 17-35mm f/4 PRO FX lens

The Tokina AT-X 17-35mm f/4 PRO FX lens was first shown at Photokina 2008. The Canon version will be available in July, the Nikon version will go on sale in September, 2011. The listed price for Japan is ¥98,000 (around $1,211). Some sample images can be found here.

Remember the Tokina AT-X 17-35mm f/4 PRO FX lens prototype that nobody covered during Photokina 2010?

Tokina will show the same lens again at the CP+ Show in Japan together with a new Kenko 400mm f/6.3 super telephoto lens:

Tokina did produce a 400mm f/6.3 lens in the past.

Tokina AT-X 17-35mm f/4 PRO FX lens prototype

Besides a picture on dpreview and a two sentence coverage on dc.watch, there is no further information on the Tokina AT-X 17-35mm f/4 PRO FX lens prototype that was shown at Photokina two weeks ago. A reader emailed me that this lens will take 77mm filters and is rather compact in size, similar to the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 DX version.

Tokina already announced a AT-X 16-28mm PRO FX lens few months ago (for now available only on eBay).

All you need to know about Photokina

Photokina is the biggest show for photography equipment that takes place every 2 years in Cologne, Germany. This year Photokina will be between September 21- 26. Here is a summary of all rumors, predictions and expectations for the main players in the industry:

Canon: Canon G12 is a given, based on previous release patterns (they release a new version every year in September). Low chance for a new small/compact DSLR. Pictures of the Canon 60D are already available online, so you know that one is coming. There could be more PowerShots cameras like the S95, SX30 and SX130. I am sure that Canon will also release new lenses as well but I have not idea what exactly.

Sony: no new Sony full frame camera for Photokina but plenty of APS-C cameras: at least three, maybe even four - A33, A55, A560 and A580. Lenses: new set of Zeiss lenses for the NEX system and maybe a new set of Alpha prime lenses (some of them could be Zeiss).

Pentax: full frame camera from Pentax probably won't happen this year. There is a very good chance that there will be a new Pentax EVIL camera at Photokina. On the DSLR front Pentax will release new K-5 and K-r models.

Samsung: a new NX100 mirrorless camera, new 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6 and 20mm pancake lenses are expected. A 60mm macro lens is also a possibility.

Panasonic: a new GH (probably called GH2) and a new GF cameras (the GF1 was announced in September, 2009). New m4/3 lenses are also expected: 14mm f/2.5 and the 100-300mm lens.

Olympus: Olympus E-3 successor is certain and probably a new PEN, since they are on a 6 months refresh cycle: the E-P2 was released in November 2009, the E-PL1 was released in May, 2010 - you do the math.

Ricoh: the rumor is that Ricoh will release a Micro Four Thirds module for their GXR system.

Sinar: new digital back.

Metz: will probably release the Mecablitz 58 AF-2 flash.

Lenses manufacturers after the break:

Sigma: Sigma will probably join the EVIL world and will show at least a prototype of a mirrorless camera at Photokina. Besides that, the only other rumor I have is about a new Sigma 300-800mm F/5.6 lens.

Samyang: a new 35mm f/1.4 lens will be announced at Photokina.

Tamron: there were some reprots that Tamron will release lenses for the Sony NEX and Samsung NX mirrorless systems: 24-50mm f/3.5-5.6 VR, 75-200mm f/4.5-6.3 VR and a 90mm f/3.5 VR macro lenses. Another rumor indicated Tamron could start producing m4/3 lenses.

Zeiss: a new Zeiss Distagon ZF 1.4/35 already showed up in some online catalogs.

Tokina: a new Tokina 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ATX840 D zoom lens was rumored a while back.

Tokina AT-X 16-28mm PRO FX lens

The previously rumored Tokina AT-X 16-28mm PRO FX lens made a brief appearance in Tokyo while I was gone last week. The lens was shown at the "PHOTONEXT 2010" show in Tokyo. The price will be 120,000 yen (around USD1,300?).

Some Tokina rumors

In addition to the rumored update of the 80-400mm with VR lens, Tokina will also introduce a new 16-28 f/2.8 full frame lens this Fall (probably around Photokina). Tokina currently makes the most compact 80-400 lens (Tokina 80-400/4.5-5.6 AT-X 840 D ) in the market and most of their lenses are made in Japan.

Tokina and Ricoh announced plans for new lenses at PMA

Tokina announced plans for a new 16-28mm f/2.8 wide angle lens for full frame (source).

In 2010 Ricoh is planning to release a new P10 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VC lens piece for the GXR system. This lens was reported as a rumor here over a month ago. The included sensor will be back-illuminated CMOS with 10MP (same as in the Ricoh CX3 camera). The other lens will be A12 28mm f/2.5 lens with manual focus, bundled with a 12MP APS-C sized CMOS sensor. One additional accessory will also be released (source).

Rumor: Tokina 80-400 lens first to get image stabilization

Tokina is looking into image stabilization and the first lens to receive it will be the Tokina 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ATX840 D zoom lens. This was in a direct email from Tokina support to a PhotoRumors reader in response to introducing image stabilization in Tokina lenses.
