2019 full year CIPA numbers

DSLR Units: 4.505 million, -32% compared to 2018
DSLR Shipped Value: ¥174.64 billion, -41%
Mirrorless Units: 3.957 million, -4.4%
Mirrorless Shipped Value: ¥282.37 billion +3.6%
Compact Units: 6.755 million, -22%
Compact Shipped Value: ¥130.137 billion -18%

Lenses for smaller than 35mm Units: 9.352 million, -24%
Lenses for smaller than 35mm Shipped Value: ¥128.635 billion, -23%
Lenses for 35mm and larger Units: 4.885 million, -14%
Lenses for 35mm and larger Shipped Value: ¥237.387 billion, -5.6%

Mirrorless unit share (of Mirrorless + DSLR) 46.8% (was 38.5% in 2018)
Mirrorless Shipped Value share 61.8% (was 47.8% in 2018)

Note that there are still more compacts being shipped than either DSLR’s or Mirrorless, although they generate only 22% of shipped value.


Outlook on shipments in 2020:

Total shipments (the cumulative total of shipments from January to December) of digital cameras in 2020 are projected to be 11.67 million units, a year-on-year decline of 23.3%. Of those, shipments to Japan and those to regions outside of Japan are projected to be 1.78 million units (a year-on-year decrease of 23.3%) and 9.89 million units (a year-on-year decline of 23.3%), respectively.

Broken down by product type, shipments of built-in lens digital cameras are projected to be 4.8 million units (a year-on-year fall of 29.0%). Of those, shipments to Japan and those to regions outside of Japan are projected to be 1.1 million units (a year-on-year decrease of 25.7%) and 3.7 million units (a year-on-year decline of 29.8%), respectively. Shipments of interchangeable-lens digital cameras are projected to be 6.87 million units (a year-on-year fall of 18.8%). Of those, shipments to Japan and those to regions outside of Japan are projected to be 0.68 million units (a year-on-year fall of 18.1%) and 6.19 million units (a year- on-year decrease of 18.9%), respectively.

Shipments of interchangeable lenses are projected to fall 16.4% year on year to 11.9 million units. Of those, shipments to Japan and those to regions outside of Japan are projected to decline 15.2% year on year to 1.4 million units and 16.6% year on year to 10.5 million units, respectively.
