Chip supply shortage causes high prices and fake parts, continues to hinder the photo industry

The current chip shortages are impacting almost every industry, including pretty much every camera maker. Most of the newly announced products were delayed and a big percentage of the old products are out of stock. In addition to delays, the prices are also going up and we now have to deal with the risk of getting fake parts:

"Price increases are snowballing their way through suppliers and key materials in chip making as the industry rushes to meet rising demand and plug supply holes. As a result, many of the world’s large chip makers are raising prices they charge to the brands that make PCs and other gadgets. Industry officials say the increases may continue."

"Businesses in need of chips are taking supply-chain risks they wouldn’t have considered before, only to find that what they buy doesn’t work. Dubious sellers are buying ads on search engines to lure desperate buyers. Sales of X-ray machines that can detect fake parts have boomed."
