Nikkei.com reports, based on information from Hoya Corporation, that Pentax will be releasing a new mirrorless interchangeable camera this summer to compete with the existing mirrorless solutions from Sony and Panasonic. This information is probably for the rumored Pentax Q mirrorless camera that will be announced in August, 2011.
The second interchangeable camera from Pentax, the NC-1, is expected to be released on June 23rd, 2011. The invitation for the press event was briefly posted on a Japanese website and consequently removed. The time of the announcement is 2:00pm, Tokyo time (June 23, 2011).
I still believe that Pentax will announce two different interchangeable lens cameras this summer, but there is slight chance that Pentax NC-1 and Pentax Q are just code names for the same mirrorless model.
