I received this anonymous tip and a picture of a new Sony ILCE-7SR camera. I am always skeptical of unknown sources, but this time I will let you be the judge - is it real or fake? Post your opinion in the comments. Here are the details:
Sony dealers have told me that Sony will launch a new, non-flagship integrated mirrorless camera, the ILCE-7SR, between Q1 and Q2 of FY2024. The newly developed high-sensitivity sub-pixel split sensor gives it flagship video performance with a high enough 42M class resolution (which seems to be in line with the A7R III), but continuous shooting is kept at 10fps.
For non-continuous shooting demanding users, it's more versatile than the A1 and image quality is excellent in all video recording formats. Featuring XAVC HS-I encoding (for 4K & 8K, up to 8K/60p full-frame), it's SONY's second super-sampled 4K/120p (not available when in Super35mm mode, full-frame only) camera since the F65, and the industry's first mirrorless camera to support full-frame super-sampled 4K/120p.
When shooting 4K video, the sensor combines analog pixels into 8Kx2K for horizontal oversampling. At the same time, sub-pixel splitting keeps their logical pixel centers evenly spaced, as with a native 8Kx2K Bayer sensor, eliminating the need for Pixel Binning Correction and achieving commercially available image quality.
As for still photography, it features the upgraded Pixel Shift Photography function at the A7RV, which outputs 160M-class high-resolution photos in just four shots.
