CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their camera production data for August 2021 (orange: 2021, black: 2020, blue: 2019):

August DSLR and Mirrorless body shipments were ahead of July 2021.  Mirrorless now has a 57.6% unit share of ILC’s and a 76.7% shipped value share. Based on the first eight months and last year’s shipping patterns, we predict a full-year estimate of 6.859 million ILC units shipped compared to (Canon has predicted a full fiscal year industry estimate of 6 million units and they claim they’ll take 50% of that):

• 2020: 5.308 million 
• 2019: 8.462 million 
• 2018: 10.76 million 
• 2017: 11.68 million

• DSLR Units : 1515K +15% YTD
• DSLR Shipped Value: ¥61.2 billion +9% YTD

• Mirrorless Units: 2055K  +42% YTD
• Mirrorless Shipped Value: ¥202 billion +81% YTD

• Compact Units: 2028K –3% YTD
• Compact Shipped Value: ¥48.6 billion +8% YTD

• Lenses for smaller than 35mm Units: 3376K +11% YTD
• Lenses for smaller than 35mm Shipped Value: ¥50.7 billion +16% YTD

• Lenses for 35mm and larger Units: 2843K, +43% YTD
• Lenses for 35mm and larger Shipped Value: ¥157.7 billion +61% YTD

• Cumulative YTD Mirrorless unit share (of Mirrorless + DSLR): 57.6% (was 52.2% Jan-Aug 2020)
• Cumulative YTD Mirrorless Shipped Value share: 76.7% (was 66.6% Jan-Aug 2020)

• The ratio of lenses shipped to bodies shipped is 1.74 for Jan-Aug 2021.  It was 1.82 for Jan-Aug 2020.
