I read somewhere that Panasonic always have a new camera announcement around July 20th. I decided to investigate this further and here are the results - yes, Panasonic has been doing this since 2004:

- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1: July 20, 2005
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX3, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 & DMC-FX07: July 19, 2006
- Panasonic DMC-FZ18, Panasonic DMC-FX55 and FX33: July 24, 2007
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3: July 21, 2008
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37: July 21, 2008
One model is listed as discontinued at B&H: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 and several are out of stock:

I would ad to your list the LZ9 and LZ10. I tried to look for it for a friend and couldn’t find it at B&H and Adorama. Amazon has it but only a few at a no name retailer (as of Monday). I only assume they’d be replaced.
I hope for a nice FZ28 replacement with HD Rec and AVCHD codec, faster start-up and autofocus (FZ30-FZ50 like).
I kinda miss FZ20-30-50 line. I had them and loved them. Apart from the noise, they were/are great-great cameras.
ZS1/ZS3 and LX3 are to fresh to be replaced. I’d like a manual mode on ZS line. I’ll buy one the day it’s online.
Very well observed!
It will be a Panasonic FZ38, it was tested two weeks ago in Lisabon.
It will replace the FZ28. The testpictures looked quite good.
Bjorn, you are sure the FZ38 is already “ready” for sale !
What are the differences between FZ28 & FZ38 ?
Where can I find details about this new model ?
Thanks
Man, if you head to middle America, you’ll find that it’s nearly impossible to find ANY Panasonic cameras. Long known for availability issues (like Sony, Panasonic under-projects their needs in order to keep ROI tight and consumer demand high), right now there just isn’t anything out there. One would think that, yeah, they’re going to overhaul at least half the line and then release it all when they’re ready.
There’s no doubt that all the manufacturers have produced less product this year in order to keep costs down… and there’s little reason not to believe that they’re all also already preparing for the holiday season. With costs cut, production needs to be ready to go and done by a reasonable time. I expect to see this issue of the “no Panasonic available cycle” taking place with the new product that’s going to be announced shortly… by mid-January LMAO.
I mean, seriously, the LX3 could’ve sold at least another 30-60% more if it had just been out there. The FX37, perhaps 10-20% more. The TZ and ZS series will be flying off the shelves come the holidays… and bully for them, I say. Panasonic deserves their hard won success.
