“Canon will make one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history”

What is Canon planing to announce on 09.29.09?

I guess 09.09.09 is over, but 09.29.09 is also a good date to announce a new product. Canon also thinks so with this new teaser:

Canon Announcement Teaser 2009 09 29 Canon will make one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history

Translation:

“During this fall, Canon will make one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history and we hope you can attend. During a luncheon, you are invited to listen to CEO Jouko Tuouminen, Marketing presiden Monica Forsberg and trend analyst Magnus Lindkvist, talking about tomorrows trends and factors of success in the continually more digitalized everyday life.”

Pretty bold statement. Of course the new product may not be photography related – doesn’t the box looks too big for a camera/lens?

I’ve heard that one too but that’s a huge box for a rangefinder. Let’s hope it’s Nikon making the digital rangefinder announcement instead :)

How can you tell it’s a huge box? There is nothing in this photo to provide scale. If anything the shape of the box might be a little different that’s all.

Isn’t one of the names mentioned in the flyer from canon’s copier or business solutions division or something like that?

There’s nothing in the photo to lend perspective. The box could be 5 feet or 5 inches wide.

It might be telling that the announcement does not mention cameras or photography.

I believe Canon played in the PC business years ago. Maybe they’re coming back.

I think Tuominen is in CBS, Canon Business Solutions… At least he HAS been there before. Of course I’m not sure.

Yes, Tuominen and Monica Forsberg is director of canon Sweden’s Business Solutions Marketing. Not the kind of people who would be announcing a rangefinder or 1DmkIV, but they would be the one’s announcing a canon business product like a copy machine.

Me thinks you are too early. Might have to wait a bit longer for announcement around Feb 2010 with availablity summer 2010. Might will be last Bayer based 1D series

Note that it’s one of the “largest launches”, NOT “one the most important products”. My guess would be multiple products across the imaging, video line, maybe also include the SED TV. In June canon said it’ll have 100 new product this fall, right now it’s far from it.

Ouuuuch SED does right a bell. Good call on that one. Maybe it’s not all dead after all.

Well the TV program’s been working on things for 3 years or more… the medium format competitor has been in the works for 5 years or more…

I am also curious. I do love Canon’s hype machine. They have one of the best that doesn’t require Ashton Kutcher….
