Nova DSLR camera concept

I am a big fan of camera concepts - in previous posts you can see a Leica S5 concept, Nikon 3M Coolpix concept, Nikon Coolpix 360 and another Coolpix concept. Keep in mind that those concept are created by designers and have nothing to do with real life camera manufacturers (but  they are still so cool). Today I present to you the Nova DSLR camera concept by Erin Fong:

Obviously these designers don’t actually carry any sort of cameras with them ever! Seriously, as a Canon novelty, I am not so surprised! However, I am they are not real cameras, but I don’t see the cool factor here either although Canon in real life already has a lot of cool! That’s just me :)

anything new and different can easily be labelled as ‘innovation’! ricoh’s concept of inseparable lenses and sensors was called innovation although it is worse than the conventional alternative, so more approipiately should be called ‘degradation’ or ‘deviation’.

hehe, seems to be fun, but quite uncomfortable in daily use.

I agree with Sky there: any one holding that thing has zero center of gravity. The stabilization better be top line :)

looks… like something geeks would buy.

I doubt it will be good for demanding work.. unless it is 20th gen image stabilization… or something… i cant imagine how stable you can be holding a camera like that…

The early Kodak and Polaroid cameras were oddball designs, obviously approved by some marketing types.

Photographers wanted a camera that looked like a camera, particularly at the prices they were asking. This put them in a hole to start with, and it took Koday about three years of poor sales to realize what was happening. I don’t know if Polaroid ever figured it out.

Obviously, it is not Canon. It is Cannot. With a “conceptual” concept but without humanity of handling and stablity. But I think it is mirrorless. lol

Canon would never dare to be at the forefront of anything. Big miscalculation by the designer. As you all said, looks like a nightmare to shoot with, unless it has anti gravity field generators, in which case I take that back.

In the battle between Form and Function, Function clearly lost this one.

Looks similar to the Colani Canon designs from the ’80s:

Bear in mind that the product of all these design exercises was the T90, which is the design grandfather of every modern pro SLR, and a fantastic camera in its own right (sniff… I loved mine and learned real photography on it).

I have nothing agains inovation but if we need to change de dslr format (because the classic format of dslr are for film camera) I think we need to go for stabilisation … on shoulder ?
