Yes, Hasselblad is coming with a new baby

I have been following this rumor for a while.

There is new Hasselblad teaser – a new baby is coming:

All key dealers in Central Europe were instructed by Hasselblad about the new camera system due next week. Hasselblad sees a gap between DSLR and MF segments and it will address it next week. The new camera will be cheaper and as compact as the Leica s2.

Read more about the new campaign in DSLRmagazine (English translation). A better “human” translation can be found here.

Just goes to show you that ‘compact’ is a relative concept.

“Hasselblad sees a gap between DSLR and MF segments”

Yes, but what about a bigger gap between DSLR and P&S segments that nobody is able to properly plug yet. m4/3 are trying but failing, anyone…Canon, Nikon – please?

Hybrid cameras and m4/3s are the one between DSLR and P&S. And I don’t see how m4/3 fails in filling the gap between these two.

Anyway – I seen photos from S2 and they are totally awesome. But I doubt Hasselblad camera in between DSLR and MF gonna be popular or threat in any way FF DSLRs. I’m kinda worried that it’ll have disadvantages of both DSLRs and MF cameras making it kinda pointless.

I don’t like any of the hybrids produced so far. They are basically scaled down DSLRs that offer a smaller sensor and nothing in return.

“What if we were to tell you that we can put your work in front of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people, absolutely free of charge?”
Sounds more like they are going to launch a web-service for HASSELBLAD photographers.

I’d rather a FF/MF hybrid vs a m4/3 type system. Light weight cameras unto themselves do not attract me. Ultimate IQ is what attracts me. A Hassleblad light sounds amazing.

A gap between DSLR and MF?… These guys have never used a Nikon D3X with proper lenses…

This is pure foly and will mark the end of Hasselblad. This is coming 4 years too late IMHO.

    Cheers,

Is this Leica-like Hassy in addition to the other new Hassy medium format coming out? The H4D-40?? Or is the H4D-40 the Leica-like that they are referring to ??

I’m confused so maybe I’ll just keep surfing, looking for more juicey rumours.

    LOL!
