It is not clear if the announcement will be for a camcorder or a DSLR with video:
The camera company is holding an event at the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards in London on the 8 February titled “Canon at the movies”.
The initial report was for a press conference on February 9th – there is a possibility that more than one announcement could be coming next week.

definitely something video, either way the video features are always, as it seems, a few steps above nikon
if this is it, i’ll switch to Canon. Nikon video module really pisses me off. they came out with the 1st video DSLR & after 3 generations, still stucked into the jello & bad codecs.
bye…
Okay, I was wrong.
But obviously someone in Japan Engineering & Marketing didn’t talk to the person in CHARGE of marketing, because they are announcing a product before a show they dropped out of.
It’ll be like Nikon already planning on the D4 unveiling on 9/6, while Nikon Marketing announcing that they are pulling out of Photokina two months from now due to the economy.
That’s ok, I think Leica will do the same thing – they are not part of PMA, but I think they will release at least 1 p&s and 1 M lens on February 19th (not sure about the date). Companies just want to use the momentum of the press reporting photography news.
60D, 18MP and 1080 video
1ds mark iv please
Too soon, us Nikon guys would yell
Or, is it like this, as soon as a new body is out, we already want the successor?
obviously pro video gear (movie being teh keyword)
Is Canon going to beat Nikon at a Video camera that takes all existing photo lenses?
or, it could be a whole bunch of new video cameras Canon will be announcing.
Their Pro video cameras, are way overdue…
It could be a projector (2k / 4k?)…. remember Canon has alot of products
1DsIV, with built in projector?
Canon has indicated in the past they are working on some new HD format for their Pro Video Cameras, and Panasonic (for the past year have release a couple new AVCHD Pro VidCams), Sony made an early announcement some months ago, and has finally started shipping their first Pro level AVCHD VidCameras, HXR-NX5 and HDR-AX200 (consumer level). So, probably no surprise if Canon could be looking to launch some form of video cameras.
Does it say there will be an announcement at all?
It just says its an event. could be just a mini expo, showing current gear and its capabilities to the uneducated film masses while theyre in town?
j
are we there yet?
