The video implies that the alpha sensor will be used in the new camera. Since it’s an Exmor R, it is highly likely to a cropped sensor. How cropped remains to be seen.

The video says “Exmor APS HD CMOS”

Even if it didn’t I would assume it would be APS-C or smaller to fit smaller lenses to the small body.

I think being cropped is expected and it doesn’t matter, I really don’t expect a Full frame in this type of camera!
However, I’m excited to see how fast the lenses Sony will bring to this and the IQ in general!

The looks is “surprisingly” similar to Panasonic GF1

    @Carlos Echenique, Alan

    It’s 1.5 crop APS-C.
This was official stated or at least official information clearly leads to this.

While there is still some space around the sensor.
Don’t know if it is enough fpr future FF upgrade but that would need new lenses of cause.
Lets just wait where the market for EVIL goes.

Why is it such a loud clicking sound in the video? There’s no mirror flipping around, right?

the audio is all done in post, every bit of it so dont go by what you heard, its just the sound engineer going by what sounds good and not by what sounds right.

let’s hope they will bring a less amateurish product at some point without the video and the built in flash , with a built in high res EVF and a centered hot shoe for OVF

I see that the Japanese “small cameras are for ladies, and ladies aren’t serious photographers” myth remains in full effect here. Meanwhile the $2000 Leica X-1 (with no video) is backordered at B&H and Adorama…

backordered doesnt mean it is popular. maybe it is just expensive with current exchange rates to keep it laying in stock

The only thing amateur about this (or pretty much any other camera) is the person behind it, not a bevy of features one deems “amateurish” simply because they don’t know how to (or care to) use it.

By your reckoning, the top-end Nikons and Canons are also “amateurish” cameras for having video, never mind that the season finale of House was actually filmed fully using an even-more “amateurish” 5D Mk II.

The most interesting thing here is that the mount is HUGE (just compare it to m34 or to NX). Full frame next year?

      I wouldn’t hope for FF.
Big sensor -> big compact -> big compact is not compact anymore -> it’s neither DSLR because of shitty ergonomics -> it’s expensive because of big sensor -> noone buys it besides few maniacs. ;)

“Big sensor -> big compact -> big compact is not compact anymore -> it’s neither DSLR because of shitty ergonomics ”

explain me how they could manage to make Bi-flex 6×6 systems with such Tiny lenses in the past , covering 60mmx60mm frames !

everything is possible. I’d wish to see a FF rangefinder camera taking the older Nikon F lenses in a very compact body.

    Say jelly!

Did anyone notice this horrible jelly effect in the video? I hope it can shoot stills better and that there will be decent lenses for it soon. Now back to my 1Ds mk2 brick.
