    I’m here! :)
Any idea how long NR will be down Admin? In time for the big announcements?

    • Posted August 29, 2010 at 8:50 pm | Permalink

It all depends how fast the new host will get the new server ready and if I run into any technical problems, but I guess nikonrumors.com should be up by tomorrow (Monday) night.

For a minute there I thought that the virus issue had reappeared and that the site was being blocked somehow. Take your time, so long as it’s up and running in advance of the 15th. :) Inquiring minds need to know!

This has nothing to do with the malware from last – my current host cannot handle the amount of traffic I am getting and they pulled the plug on my blog. I am now moving to a new server.

        This is all your fault then…doing a great job…increasing traffic…just kidding…

based on your tweets, sounds like your former host did you dirty! they should have been able to handle the traffic instead of pulling the plug on you like that

What’s this? I don’t like the sound of plugs being pulled. Ouch!

Sadly this is very true. The smarter they make our devices the more likely for viruses being written to attack them.

Tried to get to NR last night, thought maybe you were switching servers, so tried flushing the DNS cache, no joy. Like the fail over server this morning, at least it let me know what was going on.

Good luck on the switch. Look forward to NR being back on line.

FYI: my host MediaTemple did NOT pull the plug on NR because of the malware present on their grid servers last week that brought several sites down, incl. NikonRumors. They pulled the plug because I was using “too much resources” on their servers. There was no warning and of course they did not tell you in advance how much resources you can use, they just disabled the site. If you are suing MediaTemple grid servers as your host, be aware that Media Temple can pull the plug at any time without warning.

With Explorer I got the message about this on nikonrumors.com, with Firefox just a blank page, not sure if only me.

    Good luck with migration, kutgw!

Take your time Admin – you’ve been amaizingly useful information source for a long time. I know the pain of moving sites to a new server, so take it easy – it’s going to turn out good for you – no more problems with bandwith, unrealiable hosts, filling tickets without getting answers etc ;)

This is the worst migration I’ve seen someone do in a while. The proper way of migrating a site from one server to another is to setup the server first, then uploading all the files, then migrate all database info, and lastly updating the name servers to the new server…..and your site is up and running with zero interference.

Think about how much money the nikonrumors guys is losing right now.

    • Posted August 30, 2010 at 11:03 pm | Permalink

Trust me, I know how to migrate to a new server – what you are missing is the fact that my old host (MediaTemple) suspended my account because they could not handle the traffic. This was of course without any warning. 24 hr later, NR is back online.

At the same time when NR had malware attack, my computer was infected with sality trojan. Was that a coincidence or not?
