what a disappointment from Oly.
not really, we havent seen the camera yet and its not as if this camera is competing with any of the top of the market pro cameras. Competing against d300 and 7d and the specs so far do that.
hmm an E-5 suppose to be better than d300s and 7d ?
i doubt that. anyway i will wait to see what an E-5 is capable of.
I for sure do want Olympus not to abandon normal 4/3
and would like to see them to develop a bigger sensor in the futher.
Right now they are having fun selling m4/3 hurrrrr’Sigh Sigh.
naggin’ too much.!!!
it will not bevery difficult to be better then a 7D , the 7D has a compact-like IQ
no i said the camera is competing against the D300 and 7D. I have no idea if its better, worse, or an equal to those two.
4/3 is dying. There is only one compact body left and advanced segment of the system makes no sense now due to overpriced advanced lenses and lousy sensors compared to what Nikon and Canon offer. Olympus people are idiots – for a long time they could’ve become an advanced compact system (a cheap Leica) and the success of 25 pancake shows that.
Gee, I hope it goes up to ISO 1600. I’ll get a 17mm f/2 (35mm FOV) to shoot in low light with my E5? Oh, Oly doesn’t make that–only ultra expensive (and large) f/2 zooms (negating any supposed size advantage) or S-L-O-W variable aperture zooms. Uggh!
It’s got almost the same specs as my D90. My D700 has wide fast primes and top notch zooms available, better specs, ultra high ISO and a large, beautiful viewfinder.
I don’t see the E5′s value proposition. It is outspec’ed by C, N and S’s offerings (and probably outclassed as well). Small sensor is noisier–Oly hasn’t abolished the laws of physics yet. No wide fast primes. The E5 would be a phenomenal camera … in 2006.
Drop your D90 in the water,…..better yet,..try using AIS lenses with your D90….
Oly has a niche market,….and it’s not the Canikon crowd.
I own a D90,….and an E-510,….guess which one was with me for a majority of “OMG I GOTTA PHOTO THAT” shots.
And there are PLENTY of fast primes in OM mount used,….for cheap that Zuiko glass is nice….and has been.
I use a 70-300mm and a MF 500 F/8 T mount,…..stabilized by the sensor.
I love my D90,….but long lens work,…on the cheap,….is Olympus. You tech hounds are not IMHO real photographers anyway,…..just spec lusters after what ever is new.
And sensor noise?……gimmie a break,….I run NO NR in my E-510 and use PS and or other apps for NR.
And as software advances,….all my raw stuff will just look better and better.Go hound Canon for more MP,…..or Nikon to make longer, cheaper lenses.
I hope you like dropping your Olys in water as well–I didn’t know that it was a Nikonos! If you are so gung-ho about the apparent waterproofness of your Olympus, DO IT–dunk it in water, and let us know how it turned out.
No wide primes. What a pity. Noise. NOISE. Another pity.
Manual focus of moving subjects with a teeny tiny Olympus dslr viewfinder? Good luck.
not to talk about DR with 4/3…awful to say at least….noise to deal with it after? i prefer less noise to strat with….
That’s funny. I dropped Oly after it couldn’t keep up with 5fps and continuous AF. Meaning to keep things in focus. So while it’s great for the crop factor, real world use : not so much.
pixel size ?
Admin… I still can`t see the nikonrumors home… I see the hole page but without any posts. I can see the adds, the categories, the main top menu but no posts! When I click fot example on d7000 categories I can see the posts related to it!
Dual-cards:
I bet it gonna be xD + SD. Sorry to see they gave up working on further xD specs and stopped at early 2000′s specs.
Zig
Look like Olympus is under-delivering again.
The worst part about the E-3 was the autofocus and the noise. Noise so bad even the Ninja couldn’t get it out at 1600.
Glad I have a D700. Miss the Leica 14-150 though. That was one sweet piece of glass.
The thing is that, Olympus have made billions if they did not go only to the ..tarded four thirds route. I mean it’s nice and all but it should be the second option only.
They should make a full frame or even bigger.
I would not mind if oly moved from four thirds to the leica S2 size sensor and lenses .. Full frame and 16 bit imaging with half the price of leica lenses and full HD video. 15 Mpix and usable 512 000 ISO
and usable 12 800 iso for stills. It could be done
I don’t believe the rumoured specs. They are too weak to make a difference with existing Olympus models.
Olympus PEN is a great photogaphic toy which I bought for its size and performance waiting for the next tech leap from Olympus. I expect more and am ready to wait a few months to get from Oly a low iso monster and fast AF.
I agree. It’s a shame Oly wasn’t fullframe . I like their cameras but the 4/3 does nothing for me. 2x multiplier… F/2 lenses with the same DOF as full frame f/4. Uh uh. Oly’s flagship DSLR joins Sigma’s as great cameras circa 4 years ago but released today. Canon changed their entire mount years ago. Surely Oly can just make the change to full frame and weather the storm. Full frame body, high mp that can auto crop their 4/3 lenses. It can be done.
Yeah the junky old F/2 lenses like the 35-100 f2 that gives the same angle of view as a 70-200. Wow to shoot 200mm at f2 with perfect glass oh what junk Olympus makes. Yeah I know the bokeh is the same as f4 on an old fashioned 35mm FF but it still is manageable, and when needed I pull out my PL25 1.4 no problem with beautiful OOF backgrounds.
You brainwashed masses have the nerve to call Olympus people idiots? Hmm my 300 f2.8 gives me a 600mm angle of view and with this type of shooting DOF is an advantage. So tell me about the Canon 600 2.8 and what do you shoot at to get the same DOF?
Bottom line they are all good cameras, some are better for certain uses then others but most mfg. top models will be able to manage most situations in the hands of a competant photograher.
Now for a possible new E-5 with 12mp, clean 1600 iso and rumored decent 3200 iso whats the problem? Weather sealing, good sharp glass, built in IS, the best dust reduction (fact), decent DR, good ISO, swivel LCD (yes it’s handy at times), sure sounds like a fine camera to me.
These comments show that there are more tech nerds then photographers here. One of my photography profs is a working pro photographer and uses a d200. Surely this E5 will outclass that and be a professional caliber tool so whats the problem.
These comments show that nobody needs large Olympuses anymore. Right now there are 18 comments and mine is 19th. Unimaginable for a Canon/Nikon/Sony body.
I dropped my E3 in a swamp, washed it under a tap and it still works fine.
A-MEN to that!!! I know someone who dunked their E-3 and 12-60 lens in a barrell of water and it survived just fine. Why did he do that? He did it while traveling in Europe and was given a hard time by a local who was a canon fan. The individual kept looking at James’s e-3 and finally just looked at him and pounded his chest and said “Canon!” James, walkes over to the barrel full of water, completely submerges his set-up and looks at the guy and says “Olympus!” and walks away. And yes, camera was JUST FINE. On another, shorter note; someone I worked with fell in 7 feet of river water in the fall season in Colorado so obviously the water is cold. He climbed out and his camera was just fine too. He had an E-3 with the 14-54.
I know about all the current cameras and camera companies. Why? Because I work in camera sales. Canon is the perfect company for you tech junkies that just need their next upgrade fix. What you fail to see is that Canon, as a company, has horrible quality control. Guess who quality controls their cameras? You, the public. The T1i was a perfect example. 9 months after the release of this oh-so-wonderful camera they pale it in comparison to the T2i because all of a sudden people didn’t like the exceptionally slow AF in live view and NO AF in video mode on the T1i not to mention at $699 to $899 the rebels pale in comparison to the features and quality standards of ANY of the other maufacturers in the same price range.
If you enjoy spending that kind of money “upgrading” your camera every 9 months on rebels and are so lost to the canon brainwashing then by all means, you do what you gotta do.
