Pentax 645D with the D-FA 55mm f/2.8 lens

TOP interviewed Ned Bunnell (President of Pentax USA) and here are the highlights:

  • Pentax has no plans to discontinue the 31mm, 43mm and 77mm FA Limited lenses.
  • Pentax will start shipping a new wide angle D-FA 645 25mm f/4 lens in early 2011 (for the medium format 645D camera). Apparently this lens was announced at Photokina, but Pentax forgot to tell the world about it. The other lens for the 645D is the D-FA 55mm f/2.8 that should start shipping any day now in the US.

I recently bought a Pentax K5 and the 31 and 77 FA lenses. I also use a Leica X1 and have used a Leica M9 and last but not least a Canon 7D. The 31 and 77 Pentax lenses are hands down the finest lenses I have used (except for MAYBE the Leica 75 f2). The lens makers at Canon should fall on their swords in shame for not making a pair of lenses of such craft and quality (never mind even trying to match the Leica lens I’ve noted).

I recently read an article saying that Canon lenses have low resolution, even the L lenses. So the dude says any camera above 16MP would be a waste since no L lenses have higher resolution than that. Is that true?
