I think 50mm macro is not even useful to bring, because people wanting 50mm will buy 1.4 lenses, and for macro I would assume 105/150 would be higher on the list. As an owner of the Nikkor 50/1.4 I have no need for another 50mm in my bag at all, and dont even feel the need for a 60/2.8 macro by Nikon as its to close to 50mm and not usable enough in outdoor situations.

shooting macro with a 50mm give a totally different perspective. its very refreshing compared to the 100mm perspective that every other person uses. the point isnt to replace yr 50mm, but to provide a different perspective for macro shooters. its not just about how close/sharp/fast it is, but how you involve the background/foreground and change the perspective.
