Something new is coming for Pentax K-5/K-7

pentax logo2 Something new is coming for Pentax K 5/K 7

Update: see the post on NikonRumors.com for more details.

Yvon Bourque made this statement on his blog yesterday:

“Something new is coming. DSLRs will never be the same… Pentax K-5/ K-7 will get it first, but  Nikon, Canon, Sony and Olympus will get it next.”

A new lens? A firmware update? A new accessory? Maybe a new book? Does anyone have a clue?

Or if the 645D is anything to go by a ‘full frame’ sensor with a 2x crop factor. ;-)

I think we’ve bacome a bit jaded with respect to Pentax marketing.

Only thing that I can imagine is some form of special 3rd party battery grip, seen as the k5 and k7 use the same one?

Yes there are gps modules for C&N.
Sony has now one model with build in GPS and likely following released will also include this.

To be honest it’S a shame the companies have not included GPS into their camera earlier.
Every cel phone now has that,
And the external GPS modules are way overpriced in comparison.

Light Peak port converter/adapter. The timing fits well for new Mac Pro release in Mar which it is rumored will feature Light Peak port. Rumor is that a new big black camera will have Light Peak ports built in – a DSLR first when it comes out – rumors is late summer. Since Intel is the chip set producer it is possible for a 3rd party vendor to get access to this technology and come out with products before the big boys. Speed wise the new ports will be way beyond USB v3

      Hello
That could be that. assuredly if it is supposed to change the dslr world it cannot be a lens or a Pentax only thing . My bet is that it is some kind of accessory or firmware update for either GPS function or some sharing of the images via wireless or stuff like that

In another word, not something important to a lot of actual Photographers

a 6×7 form sensor makes sense, it would be a 24 x 28 mm sensor.

It’s new memory card standard. You remember, the one that Sony, Sandisk and Nikon developed for the need of DSLRs.

Sony A700 replacement will have it too.
