New Sony NEX 3/5 firmware update

sony nex 5c camera New Sony NEX 3/5 firmware updateA leaked Sony PDF document describes a new firmware update for Sony NEX 3/5/5C product line. I believe the letter "C" in the NEX-5C model indicates cameras for the Chinese market and should not be confused with the upcoming Sony NEX C3 model. Here are the details:

Selective colour filters should be banned by law.

      +1

However, if they allow people to create their own layered filters that will be applied to the JPEG at the time of shooting, and have these ones as samples/presets (that can be deleted!) I wouldn’t mind. I’d still shoot RAW+JPEG though.

I really wished they could have made a silent shutter option, I actually own and use this camera, and the shutter noise is really annoying to me! :(

Same here. However, as far as I know, the sound is not artificial (so no firmware update would eliminate this). It’s actually produced by the shutter.

Are you serious? My ears must be deceiving me, I really thought it was artificial, such a strange sound too!

Yep… Nothing wrong with your ears ;) I thought it was artifical too, especially since this is a mirrorless camera (and it’s more noisy than my D50). Also, it’s not uncommon for “small” cameras to have such a feature (like mobile phones), so it would be no surprise.

I did some online research, however, and it seems many more thought as we did – but conclusions were (theirs, at least) this is indeed mechanical.

This could be huge news for manual focus users. Peaking level and color options suggest they have implemented focus peaking as a manual focus aid. This is probably the best manual focus aid a contrast detection camera can offer.

See this H5 review for what I mean: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh5/page3.asp

Thanks for the hint. I had no idea what “focus peaking” meant. Still figuring out how this works, so I’m not sure this will do it, but I hope it can help focusing in low light conditions

Completely agree about the shutter noise! It’s excessive! Wish they could address it!.

The focus peaking could be helpful, instead of enlarging the image when manually focusing. Would help shoot quicker.

    Let see…

Oh another thing… I wish they can implement some form of Camera stability since I don’t want it in the lens. I use a Leica lens on mine, and really want to avoid cranking up the ISO, my aperture is already at f/1.4 @35mm.

    Yeah I know, I’m saying my dream-list out loud….

I think the 5C refers to one of the bundles offered by retailers, I think it’s either the 18-55/16mm combo or the 18-200 kit
