It would be nice if they offered full manual control over video and 24fps- but seeing as this Sony there is no chance of that happening. Still, will be nice cameras for people who aren’t into video.

How does Sony D-range optimisation compare to the likes of Fujifilm (excellent) or Canon (sucky)?

There’s really no right and wrong way to do DRO… Just like auto white balance or worse. If anything the user is to be blamed for wanting the camera to decide thing for him/her.

    • AmirK

Sony DRO is done in hardware by a dedicated chip in the camera (technology by apical ). See this link

      http://www.apical-imaging.com/sony

Nikon probably uses the same (or similar) chip. It’s been in Sony cameras for years.

      • AmirK

the have the list of “partners”

        http://www.apical-imaging.com/Customers_And_Partners

all of the listed one probably use same/similar chip

You’d only need a dedicated chip for it because the main processor is not fast enough to do it.

All that this chip does is, segment the image based on brightness and adjust it to its own liking (see description). The important thing is there’s nothing special in the sensor at the time the image is captured. So there’s nothing stopping from anyone mimicking this effect or doing even better than what this chip does in any other camera.

Is it clear at this moment if these two cameras share the same new sensor or the one in Nex-C3 is older (from A55 maybe)?

  • http://www.truphotos.com gnohz

As usual I’m interested in the noise characteristics :D

  • aarft

So it does 1080 or doesn’t (720)? Because here the list says 720, and in the video it says 1080…

and the sensor is the a55 or something new?

    • aarft

sry, I meant the nex c3…
