No. Don’t believe the hype. Their 16-28mm f/2.8 was announced much higher than it sells for ($900), and this will be the same sort of thing after the dust settles.

I could see this lens at around $700 after all.

Even the Nikon version (16-35 f4 w/VR) is cheaper. I have to assume it will be cheaper in the US.

Come on, stop saying same thing everytime ! It’s not a street price and you compare to current Canon and Nikon prices !

I hope the price will drop lower than 17-40

The quoted price is not the street price. I am sure it is the MSRP from Tokina. I suspect the street price will be in the $800US range.

Nice lens but there is a 16-35 VR which is 1 mm wider, has stabilizer and is… cheaper!

Sure that street price wouldn’t be 98,000yen. All companies in Japan have tendency to list suggested price a lot higher than actual street price.
Tokina 16-28 have street price of 79,800yen(118,000yen suggested), Tokina 11-16 is 52,800 yen at street(90,000yen suggested) and Canon is 82,485yen(120,000yen suggested). So most probably Tokina 17-35 will be at most 65,000yen.

I thougt on Canon 17-40 when I wrote Canon.
Nikon 16-35 VR has suggested price at 154,000 yen but stret price is 110,985 yen.

UM. The MSRP is higher than a lens with VR and 1mm wider. a BRAND NAME LENS.

Are you serious? Get out of here you tokina fanboy.

on paper looks like a good match to my trustly 17-35 2.8D, probably beat it on corner @17mm, but heck, 82mm filter size and it’s only a f4… ? the dynamic range could improve a bit on the samples there… or was it just cause from a 5D mkII?

    no aperture ring =\\\

i like that tokina’s starting to build FF lenses again. wonder if they ll revive the 28-70 2.8 line.. the current versions are fantastic wrt to resolution but the old coatings make them flare quite abit. a new 100-300 f4 would be fantastic too!
