From NYTimes - now the FBI is investigating the questionable Olympus deal:
The F.B.I. is now investigating the $687 million payment, according to two people briefed on the case. The focus of the investigation is not yet clear, and a spokesman for the F.B.I. in New York, James M. Margolin, declined to comment.
“We are not aware of any investigation” in the United States over the Gyrus deal, said Yoshiaki Yamada, a spokesman for Olympus in Tokyo. He said he could not comment further, including whether Olympus had been contacted by United States authorities.
Olympus continues to deny any "underworld links". The company's stock is currently trading at 1,190 (it was almost 2500 before the CEO Michael Woodford got fired):

Anyone seen Jim Sagawa?
What’s FBI got to do with it?
Who called them? And Why do they have jurisdiction?
because one of the suspected individuals involved in the deal lives in Boca Raton, Florida:

Investigation can merely be to see if they have any jurisdiction.
If Olympus has a branch in the US then that can be investigated I suppose?
FBI has jurisdiction and a responsibility to investigate on anything traded on Wall Street, a company has business dealings in the US, or if a US citizen is involved. All of which is the case here. FBI Investigates international companies all the time and turns the material over to countries with jurisdiction to aid their investigations.
It is good to see a CEO who was honest asking a simple question looking out for the company. Very few would these days. Hats off to him.
The time of the CEO as we know will soon come to an end. They will be the scapegoats of the rich. ” Take one for the team”…..to bad lot of the CEO’s family members and friends will also feel the impact.
Just the messenger….An interesting article
