Ricoh “will plug a gap in the market” in 2012

ricoh logo Ricoh will plug a gap in the market in 2012

This is a quote form Marketingmagazine:

"Chas Moloney, Ricoh UK marketing director, said the company is now preparing a new product that will plug a gap in the market, which will be unveiled in 2012."

Ricoh acquired Pentax back in July this year, maybe they are referring to the rumored second mirrorless camera developed by Pentax.

Yep. That’s actually only gap that exist on the market now.

Ok, maybe they’ll find out some other gap-that-noone-wants-to-see-or-use like the Nikon did with it’s “1″ system. Let’s say…. twin 50 MPx 1/5″ sensor ILC for outstanding 3D photos using microscope lenses! :P

Surely you mean, “more affordable” mirror-less full frame!

(ie. much less than the Leica M9…)

    Hi,

it’s “only” the FIRST FULL FRAME compact camera for pro photographers.

    Best regards.

I sure hope it’s a full frame compact capable of using older Pentax lenses. Let’s also hope it’s not a range finder, but an actual SLR with a prism and interchangeable screens.

So basically you want a 5D, 5DII, D700, A850, or A900? Or are you not buying any of those because you have to stop-down meter?

inexpensive medium format would be nice with lenses you can buy as not to break the bank with each pourchase

Well, if they really want to “plu a gap” here are some suggestions, from a photog point of view, not mass market :

    - a panoramic 12X36 sensor-zoom 16-85 lens for the ricoh system
    - a 24x24mm camera or sensor-lens.
    - a drone flying camera that goes under the girl skirts :)

I think the gap means 1/1.7-2/3 inch sensor CSCs

None of Ricoh’s color laserprinters got direct print support at the moment.

Ricoh…or Pentax? They both have their own lines, and if RICOH is plugging a gap then that could be very different than Pentax plugging a gap. It doesn’t sound like they’re planning on combing their product offerings. Ricoh cameras being high end compacts, Pentax cameras being affordable consumer and professional cameras. I’m very excited about the future of both these companies, who have along with Fuji brought out some of the most interesting cameras on the market.

PLEASE be a mirrorless full frame!!!!

But I doubt it. I know! How about an APS-C mirrorless full frame with actual lens choices (sorry Sony) AND a good sensor (sorry Samsung).

      “APS-C mirrorless full frame ”
You have no clue what you are talking about.

Also, people aren’t understanding that a full frame mirrorless isn’t a gap in the market. They long for it because it’s out of their reach, and if Ricoh would make it, they wouldn’t be able to afford it. It’s an extremely niche market.

They’re making some noise, nice. I think “preparing” and “new product” are the key words there.
