Black Fuji LX10 camera This is how the Fuji LX10 would look in black

Here is another mockup of the how the Fuji LX10 would look in black (photoshopped by a reader).

The LX10 could actually be similar in size to the Fuji X100 - this comparison is based on the size of the viewfinder (for better view, download the full size image and open it in Photoshop):

A black Fuji X100 is expected in early 2012.

Will the LX10 have an EVF?

I don’t think so – either optical or hybrid (like on the X100)

I’ll take hybrid. The X100 finder is quite nice.
The OVF is holding me back from the X10.

All black would be awesome. Even as a german – plus Leica fanboy i must admit – this cam looks great. Only thing missing: The Leicatime cases from Luigi made for the LX10 :-D

It will be interesting what kind of focusing it will have. If it has the same IQ of my X100 I could get one of these easily.

      Looks better? Less versatile…

Can’t be helped. Where would you put the flash? That’s what a hotshoe is for anyway. If you put the flash cyclops-like, as with the X100, it would be blocked by just about any lens. The X100 gets away with it because it’s got a built-in prime pancake. Any lens on the LX10 will stick out further and black the flash. It does indeed look better, but even if you wanted one, where would you put it?

Hmmm….. a Leica M9-P at 1/5 the price :) Very curious how they solve the focusing mechanism, I am still suspecting some sort of hybrid, as it does not seems to be a rangefinder (at least not a completely mechanical one).

Is the “LX10″ the official name now? Last I heard, it was rumored as simply the, LX.

As I have Said before, WHO is going to buy this if it does not have extremely fast and accurate autofokus or à real rangefinder?? One of them is nessecary if you want to be able to focus and get à shot before the moment is gone.. So i ask again, who’s going to buy this if the camera is as slow the x100??

    • Posted November 20, 2011 at 10:30 am | Permalink

Um, I will. As long as the AF speed is about the same as the X10 that is good enough for me. I don’t shoot sports. Nor do I do spray and pray photography.

As far as the real rangefinder comment. Rangefinders are great and all, but they have a list of weaknesses a mile long. If this new camera does indeed have a hybrid view finder (hopefully with focus peaking), then manual focus will be a breeze with it. No rangefinder required.

PS: Looks great in black. Hopefully Fuji offers it in both colors.

Yeah, WHO bought the X100 and is still buying them in droves? Must be a bunch of Fuji execs just trying to pump up sales figures!

I don’t get the LX10 name. If you’re going to refer to a number, LX100 makes alot more sense as this camera is more akin to the x100, and Fuji has built a very strong brand around the x100 already. Why reference the x10? Pfffttt!

Is it already sure that this camera will come out? and if yes, does somebody know when it will be able to buy, because I actually wanted to get the x100 for christmas but if the LXwhatever comes out of course i will wait for it. please answer!

Max, this could easily not be out until the beginning of next summer, and just as easily be available for purchase before Christmas (though I should probably not say “just as easily,” because that’s pretty unlikely). Nobody has a clue at this point.

Hope there is an adapter available to use the (sure to be great) Fuji lenses with the Sony E-mount. I have no interest in a Hybrid viewfinder or a rangefinder.

Faux Retro is a real turn-off. The Leica M3 was cutting edge, bit the M9 is an anachronism. Living in the past — been there and done that, no need to do it again.

To use the Fuji lenses on NEX? I don’t think that AF and IS will work via the Fuji to E-mount adapter, so the best solution IMO is to use some legacy lenses (M, M42, OM, ..) or wait for the new series of Sony lenses.
If you prefer EVFs and all modern features, the NEX-7 will perfectly suit you, but I just don’t like them – EVFs – (not pleasant for my eye(s), not so good in low light) and the LX10 with hybrid viewfinder is my dream camera (if they somehow make the focusing work with OVF).

Why would I want to buy legacy M, M42, etc mount lenses when I already have Nikon F-mount and Sony E-mount lenses?

The auto-focus of the Fuji lenses will be no different than the auto-focus on M, M42, Nikon F, etc lenses ;) –non-existent. But that’s OK, Sony NEX focus peaking works well.

Which fantastic e-mount lenses would you use on the new Fuji? The 16mm pancake perhaps?

The new electronic lenses will NOT work across system. You won’t be able to focus if it’s focus by wire. If Fuji could do it (no idea on the engineering), though, they’d make their flange back distance just a tiny bit thicker than the other CSC’s and use mechanical focusing (it seems aperture is already on the lens), so you could use (and therefore would buy) Fuji lenses for the other systems.

I had a x100 but unfortunately it’s shortcomings outweighd its advantages. Very slow start up, even with quick start up on, slow focus, bad menu interface and the software froze every now and then. None of these things helped it for street photography. As much as I wanted to love it it didn’t work as I wanted it to. I certainly hope this new model addresses these issues.

Hybrid view finder with RF-like framing is a must, sets Fuji apart from Leica, and can strike out as better alternative to other mirrorless cameras if implemented with superior sensor and stellar glass. Otherwise what’s the point? Too many other well-established price points / market share to compete against : NEX/m43/DX.

What would Leica co-operate for? Fujifilm makes one of the best image sensors, Fujinon lenses are very good, Fujifilm has the longer experience in digital cameras and image processing…
