A quick hands-on report with the Canon 200-400 f/4 1.4 TC by Psycho_McCrazy:

  1. Super-Fast AF, as expected from a canon super-telephoto, even with the 5D mk2 it was mounted on (or rather the camera was mounted on it)
  2. To me, the AF seemed to hunt a bit when the 1.4x TC was engaged, but then it was on a 5D2 with low light of the hall and people at various distances walking by (this lens was away from the regular canon telephoto testing area - it as on ground level rather than elevated). I am sure that with a worthy body, the AF will be top notch even with the TC engaged.

    Dear Canon,
Congratulations. The 1Dx is awsome! The 200-400 is outstanding!! I’m sure the 5D mk3 is going to be excellent. However I, like 90% of photographers will never spend $5,000 on a camera or lens so will not buy any of it. You look to have positioned yourself at the very top end of the market and at the very bottom by producing yet more P&S cameras for a dying market. And by doing so have completely missed the growth market in the middle.

I expected better from you Canon. I think we should see other people…

I agree with ad1452, It is disappointing that canon did not release T4i. I am sure many people will go with Nikon, or some other manufactures for this reason.

Maybe that’s why their CEO resigned recently. Sony is robbing market share from them and Nikon’s recent announcements blew away anything they had. Canon’s strategy has backfired on them. Folks are growing tired of them always holding back with their best. A 24-70 without IS, I’m sure optically it’s great but clearly they ignored what users have been asking for. Tamron did it… Nikon’s D800 hi meg DSLR with a REAL PRO focusing system under $3K…

I am waiting for the T4i
When will the next CP+ be ?
(sorry, I´m not an insider, so I don´t know much about cameras and releasing dates . . .)
