Firsstt, for that price they could have given us the 8mpx camera!!

    • Sebastian

haven’t looked up the sensor size yet, but all else equal I sure prefer 5M larger pixels to 8M smaller ones. they are still TINY. and the display can “only” represent 3MP anyway.

  • broxibear

    “Who wants a 5MP camera with a 9.7 inch 2048×1536 display?”
Are you giving one away Peter lol ?

    • http://photorumors.com PR admin

no, but I thought it’s an interesting combo

      • tino

Keep in mind that the high re screen still can’t display the 5mp 100%. Apple to switch to a 3mp camera for iPad 4 so you can see the image on the screen 100%!

  • timon

a 5MP webcam is with a 1/3.2″ sensor only, the imaging is not so good, but it is showing on a 2048×1536 screen, what feel is it?

Also, the new Pad the iPhoto only supported the 19MP picture max.

I wait for a new Windows UMPC.
The ExifPro is the best image viewer, with the fastest speed get viewing the RAW photos (in embeded JPEG). The image 50MP is no problem in ExifPro, a large histogram is also available, and various cameras supported.

I think you’re missing the point… this is going to be interesting for photographers to show their portfolio to clients… as unprofessional as it may sound.

If you want to be looking at histograms, etc. you’d probably want to see it on a screen bigger than a 9.7″.

      • timon

Sounds like iPad is all there professional photographer’s portfolio, if you did not buy an iPad, you would be unprofessional. if you bought iPad then you are a professional photographer.
        It is your sounds.

did not try with ExifPro, you would not understand about the histogram and ExifPro at the outdoor situation. The ExifPro is an excellent image viewer, not only showed on the desk-computer!

The ExifPro has an alone histogram window can be callable in the full screen mode, very comfortably, it is not a mini histogram!

  • Martin

Sorry, but claiming to reveal camera specs and not giving sensor size is a bit lame. It looks more like another Apple ad that does not appeal to me.

  • Harold Ellis

it is apple, so thanks, but no thanks

  • Zeusman

Good Question! I’m a Mac user and thought the same thing when I read that. Seems LAME!

So many others areas they could have addressed better.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/ZDP189 ZDP-189

Have you seen anyone taking photos with an iPad? It looks lame.

    • http://www.flickr.com/genotypewriter genotypewriter

Unfortunately, I have… human logic doesn’t explain apple-user logic very well.

      • Martin

My experience is that people who like Apple are those who were never good at school, at least not with the tough stuff. Now Apple seems to be like the teacher who understands their inability to think logically. For me it’s so obviously just a big show, I could never buy it.

        • Michael

Wow Martin a simply stunningly ignorant response. Givcen that what Apple has here is the perfect portfolio device that you can show off on or hook up to a projector. As for intelligence the funny part is that studies have shown that Apple users have higher incomes and higher education levels then other users. I find the Apple bashing to be so numbing. The camera is really for incidental use. As they say, the best camera you have is the one you have on you.

    • Harold Ellis

yes, and on a wedding. in a church. it was “awesome”.

      • Martin

        Haha, I can imagine! :-D

  • newoldmate

Oh wow. Can i suggest a new name for it? iMeh.

I think the time has arrived for people to really take notice that Apple is not the innovative company they think it is. Gone are the days when Apple can just steal and buy great ideas from other companies and upstarts. No one is stupid enough anymore (siri probably being the last) to part with their great ideas. So Apple are now in the difficult position where they have to think for themselves, and the iPhone 4s and iPad 3 have proven that they can’t.

Apple have also proven they can’t stand competition and sue any company that threatens their sales, with products even remotely similar to theirs. Oh the irony.

iOS is simple, closed, feature-lacking software running on uniform hardware. Wow impressive stuff. Of course Apple devotees don’t know about this kind of stuff (or refuse to acknowledge it out of pride), and all they can say is “its more stable and smoother than android”. Yeah, well not anymore. Phone and Tablet Hardware has reached the point where its powerful enough to overcome any performance drop Android has when compared to iOS. You have an open OS that runs on various hardware configurations and has none of the restrictions that iOS has. Flash support being one of the biggest. This is where iOS supporters claim that there is a YouTube app and you can download apps for flash based websites,so you don’t need flash anyway. Okay sure, if you’re happy with that..

I’ve heard iPhone owners talk about how the new notifications menu in iOS5 is awesome and so clever, typical Apple, they’re so great etc.. Umm, Android has had.. Oh never mind.

I’ve owned an iPad1, bought it cheap when the 2 came out because i needed a replacement for my recently broken Fujitsu ultrabook, then sold it after i got a Samsung GalaxyS2, because my phone could do so much more. Im in the process of selling my 2010 MBPro15″ (which i bought primarily for d.j-ing and mucis production), due to compatibility issues with external hardware, terrible performance and hardware compatibility under Win7 and without the use of a usb / Bluetooth mouse, some tasks in certain programs are pretty much impossible with the trackpad.

I’ve learned my lesson with Apple products and won’t ever buy another one. I hope people wake up and stop buying into their P.R bull$hit and stop being consumerist lemmings, following fads and keep up appearances.

    • newoldmate

I of course meant music production, i haven’t been involved in mucis production for quite some time..

    • BklynPigeon

please take you elitist Bull Shit elsewhere…

you must really have a problem with Apple to take the time to write 5 paragraphs. lol.

    • Banksie

And newoldmate says to the world: “I hope people wake up and stop buying into their P.R bull$hit and stop being consumerist lemmings, following fads and keep up appearances.”

And I hope they never do. Apple has made me wealthy and set me up nicely for a very happy retirement. I bought baskets full of stock over two decades ago and stuck it out over the long term. Whether you personally like their products or not, one thing is for real: they are an incredibly successful company and are sitting on enough cash with zero debt to do anything they please. And that is what all other companies can only wish for.

But aside from that, I believe they do happen to make good hardware. The design and ergonomics are what other manufacturers are always trying to emulate. They seem to be very good at industrial design.

And when someone makes such an effort to claim that users of Apple products are nothing but lemmings, it always sounds to me like an angry individual full of self resentment. If you don’t like Apple and their products, then don’t buy them. It’s really that simple.

      • newoldmate

Ouch, the truth hurts hey fellas.

Its good to see your happy with Apple cause they make you lots of money from shares. That’s the most important thing hey.

My comments are justified because i owned an iPad and wasn’t happy with it and i own a MBPro and im not happy with that either. I have no problem swallowing my pride and admitting i bought a dud product and im smart enough to not buy another one.

5 paragraphs is nothing, i held back.

        • Vince

Then don’t. Most of us genuinely don’t care.

    • Zaph

Did you miss that even Adobe say that Flash is dead?

      • newoldmate

Flash is Dead? Oh, you mean Adobe is apparently no longer developing Flash for mobile devices? Yeah, I caught that rumor, nothings confirmed. Flash is far from dead and will continue being used for many years to come.

        • Michael

@newoldmate “Yeah, I caught that rumor, nothings confirmed.” The stupid really burns when I read this kind of comment. Perhaps you ought to read this from Adobe: http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus.html — so yes Adobe is giving up on mobile Flash because Steve Jobs was right when he said it simply sucked on Mobile.

          • newoldmate

Steve Jobs was like that kid at school who was a prick to everyone yet everyone still did their best to seek out their approval and get some kind of positive response from them. Now that he’s dead, people are still trying to talk him up like he was the brains of the operation and that the technology would have been nothing without him. A Lot of people seem to know nothing about the man and what he was truly like, in business and in life. Steve Jobs wasn’t making revelations when he announced his little press release that listed all the things that he didn’t like about Flash (if it were his words of course), he was pretty much stating the obvious at the time. The problem is, their stance on flash became a stubborn pig headed decision they couldn’t turn back on while the rest of the world evolved and embraced flash, making it work on their devices. The lemmings of the world took sides with Jobsy and the fruit shack and consider his flash ramblings as the words of god and follow it blindly like fundamentalist Christians. Now after many years of use there is rumors that flash for mobile devices is no longer being developed and everyone’s crying that Jobsy predicted it like the mayans and 2012. Wow, he predicted the inevitable death of something! Get a life people. The only truth is that in the years that Apple rejected flash, Apple devotees missed out on some great times. Sucks to be you. Being able to whatever you want on any website you want without having to download an app version or use a simple mobile version. I didn’t have a single issue with flash on any of my devices, yet reading Jobsy’s little speech, it sounded like devices would melt if flash came in contact with them. Even if the day comes when flash for mobile devices is halted, it will still be available on existing devices and the last version will still be supported by manufacturers for many years to come. Oh and i see a limited future in 4G technology, it will be superseded in only a few years.. yes i am a prophet.. follow me my precious sheep.. follow me..

    • JLK

Wow, sorry Apple killed your puppy. :-(

  • BklynPigeon

Apple makes solid products. period. I just sold my 4-5 year old MackBook Pro for $500. I started the auction at .99. apple products hold their value and have the best customer service.

I have been with apple for over 10+ years its not always about the computer itself, its software. ever heard of Final Cut Pro??

    • Sahaja

Apple doesn’t make them ~ people in Foxconn’s Chinese sweatshops are the ones who do the making.

Apple is great at design, packaging and marketing though.

      • Thyl Engelhardt

Permanently wonder why so many people think that Apple’s success is somehow related to good marketing. I find the marketing pretty lame.

Design is good, but come on, could that be decisive? Or, err, the packaging?

Still, I buy their products. For the ergonomics and functionality of the software.

        • Sahaja

Their marketing may look lame – but, with the sales figures they have , it obviously works.

There are tablets and phones that are technologically and spec-wise ahead of Apple – but people don’t buy those in the same numbers

May I inject a point of logic here?
The iPad is NOT. A. CAMERA.
The iPad is a personal computing/entertainment device that has a camera as matter of convenience. For my needs (and all the iPad users I know personally) the front camera is far more important for Skype (et al). The rear camera on a tablet is like boobs on a pig – useful only to a VERY limited population (hopefully only baby pigs).

Turning our attention to more useful features and apps for photographers (those of us who are actual photographers), the new graphics accelerator, Retina display, and faster processor will make things like Photosmith and the new iPhoto really take a look at changing our work flow in the field. I’ve been an iPhone user since day one, but this will be my first iPad. Personally, this is the first one I’ve seen as an addition to my camera bag.
