that’s ridiculous. the world’s most advanced photo editing program is NOT able to open my nikon d4 RAW files.

    • Sky

Told you – should have bought Canon.

    • http://brianhirschfeldphotography.com Brian Hirschfeld

Well thats not surprising, they don’t work together since Nikon still tries to give their photo editing software an edge, so Adobe has to purchase a camera, and then work backwards to make it work with ACR, Lightroom, etc.

Never realized that Adobe released Beta’s. This is kinda cool.

      • Flo

maybe, but why can i open my D4 RAW files with adobe lightroom 4 anyway?

    • theRBK

if camera manufacturers fully co-operate with 3rd party software companies, it would be a much nicer world… until then try the release candidate for , where they have support for both Nikon’s and Canon’s new cameras…

the finalized update will probably be coming out soon…

      • Flo

thanks for the tip mate, but it won’t work in CS6, because it’s a step back from 7.0 to 6.7.
it only works on cs5 which i don’t own :(

I didn’t want to read each post so at the risk of being redundant, I created a custom export in LR4 that exports my RAW file from a D4 out to a DNG then opens it in PS6 all with one (export) click. Good enough for a temporary work-around till the world catches up.

Ugh the Adobe tax is coming…..

  • broxibear

Does anyone know if Adobe are going update their Camera RAW plug-in for CS5 or are they going to force you to buy CS6 or Lightroom 4 to open RAW files from the newer cameras like the D4 ?

    • JLK

There is already a release candidate for CS5 that adds D4 support.

      • JLK

Heh, link is colored black so it isn’t obvious in the above post. Here’s the raw URL:

      • broxibear

        Thanks JLK,
I did know about this, it expires on 05/31/2012…what I was wondering about was after this date will you need Lightroom 4 or CS6, or will they announce a final realease that works in Lightroom 3 and Cs5 ?
In the past Adobe forced people to upgrade to the new software instead of making RAW plugins work on previous versions.

        • http://blog.gerardprins.com Gerard Prins

In my experience, the expiration dates of RC versions ALWAYS overlap the Final Release dates by at least a week or two.
So, no worries. Just download the FR as soon as it comes out and be done with it.

    content aware is still rubbish…

  • Rob

I just wish they would upgrade the current tools and filters to work in 16/32 bit files. We create a lot of hdri circular domes and use the polar coordinates tool to wrap and unwrap and paint out the tripod and smooth the contact points. BUT this only works in 8 bit so I’m forced to use Nuke instead.

  • sgts

I pretty much just want to crop what i see on the screen and not mess around with the crop tool an moving around and so on – it really cant be that hard to implement – is it working on tablets yet ????????

wake me up when it works on tablets.
