In the mean time Nikon reported better than expected financial results for 2012.

    Wait a sec … Pentax already offer this with the K5 and the O-GPS ! Quite rare to see Pentax as a leader in something :P

      Exactly my wtf moment. I think that Pentax already has that patent, so Canon’s patent should be denied. At least that’s what patents are for, no?

        We are long away from a world where patents were used for protecting inventions. Now if you pay – you will get one as long as it’s not 1:1 copy of the other solution.

      absolutely nothing new about Pentax being an innovator…
      just give it a few months, and every magazine in the english speaking world will be announcing it as a “Canon first”, and everybody will think Canon invented it first…..

    this is ridiculous. for many times I recognized Canon got remarks for the so called something ‘new’, when Pentax actually did it earlier. this astrotracer sensor patent really doesn’t make any sense to me. just like years ago, when people applause electronic level feature on 7D as Canon’s innovation, the same thing Pentax made earlier on K7.

      Actually electronic leveling feature was first introduced by Nikon with D3 & D300 in 2007 … K-7 and 7D were introduced in 2009.

    Pentax has an illustrious past when it comes to “firsts.” First eye-level, pentaprism viewfinder; first electronically timed shutter; first aperture priority exposure system. That’s why I was saddened that they had to be bought out in order to survive.
