Hyperdrive Album 2 media storage device coming soon

A reader sent me a link to the not yet announced Hyperdrive Album 2. The new media storage device will have a 5.0" VGA LCD screen, fast UDMA 50MB/s download speed, side-by-side photo comparison, full HD video support, photo recovery and password protection.

there are many such things on the market, but unless it is backed up by some good company, no way i am going to trust my media to is.

one more device to danger your data on the field.

atm i am using small notebook and copy data to its internal harddrive. That way i can at least say what it is really doing with my files and costs about the same.

I don’t understand why the upload is capped at 50mb/s!?!?

USB 3.0 and new memory format are BLAZING past that number these days. Do they want this device to be relevant by the end of the year when people get a new camera?

I don’t know what other manufacturers are doing — it just seems so odd to me. I would think 100mb/s would be a minimum. That’s twice as fast and nothing to sneeze at when file sizes are becoming twice as big! (In Nikon’s case even bigger — D700 is 12MB, D800 is 36MB. Do we even talk about RAW??

These things need to get faster.

    Admin,

I trust you’ll keep us updated & post as soon as you have more info. This is definitely something I’ve been wanting and will be very useful to many photogs. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, my guess is that they will announce it at Photokina.

Or you can save the 299$ and use this approach:

    - Smartphone with OTG Supprt
    - USB hub with power supply (8$)
    - USB SD or CF read
    - external USB HDD

for more details see this blog post:

    Cheers,

nice solution but too clumsy and external power solution is needed. Small Asus EEE have its own battery and good display and costs nothing. It have also integrated SD card reader and CF can be added with just wire (i have mine velcroed to the display back). Two SD cards and one CF card reader, 6+ hours runtime.

EEE PC would have been my preferred solution if I could have used it for other purposes as well. But I already own a Laptop, which is too big to carry around, and I do not mind the power supply requirement.

this thing is already dead in the water without USB 3.0.

i dont get it. this could be every photographer’s ideal working drive if it only had USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt. then have it bus-power as a storage device only (no display).

    so close but so far.
