Although it’s a nice camera, I really don’t see a need for it.
NEX 5N/5R are quite close to NEX-7 anyway. Having the NEX-6 in the middle is some kind of what Nikon is doing with their compacts…

Looks to be 99% the same as the 5R —— BUT ——- with a standard ISO hotshoe. Amazing.

Perhaps you missed the built-in EVF, built-in flash and hardware PASM mode dial?

Personally I find the new hotshoe very surprising from Sony/Minolta.

    • Renato S.

the NEX-5n is not close to the NEX-7 at all.

the lack of dials and controls are very annoying, you need to use the confused and unpractical menus way too much.

the NEX-6 has a dial, a PASM dial, universal hot shoe, built-in flash, fn button and a EVF, it’s really the mid-term between the NEX-5r and the NEX-7.

interestingly Sony correct my major complains about the NEX-5n. now it got a dial, fn button and touch shutter – a touch screen with no touch shutter was pretty stupid. the other thing is the menu, but I don’t think they will solve that so soon. Sony should release a firmware update for the NEX-5n at least for the touch shutter and maybe some offline app support like the time-lapse would be nice.

I’m waiting to get more news about the GH3, NEX-6 and X-E1.

ok, I agree they have differences, but don’t you agree that 3, 5, 6 adn 7 are too much???
        I have 3 and 7 – finding 5 very ugly.
6 is cute and has some extras more than 7 has, but I have to be a maniac to buy both.
I think if they keep all 4 models they need to sit and clearly differentiate them.
They better invest in lenses than bodies!!!

For some of us, NEX7 is not an option because of its 24mpx sensor (too large images, to much pixel density, poor high iso performance).
If you wanna criticize Sony, u should mention its poor lens lineup. However, they will introduce a 35/1.8 soon according to rumors so, it’s just gets better.

    • atapee

Lol it has great Low light performance…

      • Rob

I mean it delivers noisier images than, for example nex-5n.

        • http://erphotoreview.com viking79

Not at the same image size, not significantly noisier anyway. If you view at pixel level it is noisier, but that is because you are viewing a smaller area (basically a higher crop ratio). If you print an 11×14 photo (or any size), or view them resized to the same pixels they should be comparable for noise.

DPReview comparisons are not agree with you. The area that one sees (for a given focal length) depends on the sensor-size (i.e. crop factor) not the number of pixel. If you can see (better count) the difference between 16 millions of pixel and 24 millions of pixel even on A4, you have a very good eyesight. What I mean the noise is there independently to the number of pixels.

this is a crap , too expensive , I mean way too expensive in relation to the NEX5R.

I think this one won’t sell well, it is just too overpriced , it should be cheaper than the NEX7.
    Sony sound so retarded.

At launch time NEX-6 MSRP is already $200 less than NEX-7 street price. Not sure what you’re expecting. You’re probably better off with this vs. a NEX-5R + accessory EVF.

    • fly

Have you ever owned any NEX body?

  • Austerlitz

Would you please confirm that the new Nex-6 will come with touchscreen LCD & touch shutter?

    • http://photorumors.com PR admin

I will try to confirm that.

    • Renato S.

I’m pretty sure it will, it would make no sense to take that away. Actually I think that later they will also add touch shutter to the NEX-5n via firmware, just like they added additional pictures effects and creative style to the old NEX-3 and NEX-5.

  • jls

If these Nex 6 specs are confirmed, then Nex 7 as it is today, is dead: 24 Mpix is not an advantage, EVF is the same, no builtin flash, no Wifi.

    • Chris

NEX-7 does have a built in flash
