So the HLD-6 for the original E-M5 won’t fit the E-M5II after all. The new grip does look even nicer, though, and it seems the two pieces (horizonal grip plus battery/vertical grip) which came in one package for the E-M5 can now be bought separately as HLD-6P and HLD-8P?

The flash, on the other hand, is bigger than its predecessor, while its reflector doesn’t seem to be larger by itself, so the flash probably won’t be more powerful, at least not significantly. So I guess Olympus has not designed a new power connection for the one the dismissed Accessory Port used to include and the new flash needs its own battery again. On the plus side, the flash seems to have a both horizontally and vertically rotating/swiveling head! That would be a nice improvement. I can already see me buying one for my E-M1, if it will be compatible and separately available…

Oh, and while I still, all in all, don’t really like the overly retro OM-D-style camera design, the black E-M5II doesn’t look too ugly, either. I like it more than the silver pics which could be seen earlier.

The flash looks like it has a tillable upper part. 🙂

HLD-8P attached to the camera body looks ugly at best. From the short time I spent with original EM-5 the optional grip helped a lot in handling. Also I really like how Olympus has listened to feedback and now will be offering grip and battery grip separately.

    HLD-8G = Grip
    HLD-6P = HLD-6 Power Battery Holder

Shes one fine looking camera, with the grips on. I love the Squareness of the body with the cut off edges of the grip. Military like. Olympus designers know how to make a sexy camera.

    +1 for seperate grips.
