Konost full frame digital rangefinder camera project
There are no new updates on the Konost full frame digital rangefinder camera project (konost.com), except the different color renderings that were recently posted on social media. The Konost team promised that real sample photos from their camera will be released soon:

I’ll be happy to see rangefinder equivalent of Pentax K-1 from Konost. Cheapest camera with best features and specifications in its class is what we want, right?

      • SH*T666

The Pentax K1 camera has just been announced. Why do you suppose it will be a good one? And there is not any “rangefinder equivalent” of a DSLR camera.

  • Michael Sullivan

three controls is not enough — you need to be able to adjust/control/specify the ISO too. It would appear that this camera has no LCD and is thus a “true” rangefinder” in the classic sense. Possible no “auto” mode either. Assume also it uses the Leica M mount. Might be an interesting niche market…

    • Iso, shutter speed on the body and aperture on the lens. Two controls on the body is enough.

    • Hubertus Bigend

Some of the renderings sport a decently-sized screen and two buttons.

    I’m interested in this camera.

  • Oh man, I wanted a purple one for me and a pink one for my girlfriend… 😉 3:)

The question is how expensive is going to be this colorful toy? In my opinion they make a copy of Leica. I guess the camera will not be competitive if they copy not only the idea and the look of Leica but the price too. But let us see.

    • Thylmuc

My Impression was that by avoiding the highly complicated mechanics of the range measuring device, and replacing it with a cheaper electronic distance measurement circuitry, they will be able to offer the camera at a lower Price?!

1 year for create advertisement with fake camera and Biogon with glue. 1 year for create not realistic rendering of fake camera. 1 more year for take image with off-the-shelf sensor development kit.

    • Zos Xavius

Yeah if this isn’t vaporware I don’t know what is. They are talking about sample images and they don’t even have an actual prototype yet? what??

If they launch some kind of rangefinder camera it has to be different from those renders shows. In that low profile body there very little to none space for the optical path of the rangefinder, and also a lens like that will block an important part of the viewfinder, not only the lower right part but the right part complete. It is a nonsense to put a direct viewfinder so low

    • J-Man

There is no optical rangefinder, it’s essentially a cellphone camera that feeds the rangefinder patch, an approach I’m surprised Leica hasn’t tried.

    • Thylmuc

According to my understanding, it is a non-range, but optical finder. So, your concerns regarding the relatively low Position of the finder window itself is in fact valid. Let’s see when they will Change that. It should not be a Problem, since there does not seem to be any significant stuff above the finder window.

  • Voltax

    yeah sure….

  • MonkeySpanner

Why bother? What do they have to offer?

  • TinusVerdino

aperture begins at F1. What is that. A noctilux? It’ll be very cheap then….

  • Thylmuc

They really try an idea I had years ago, and I wonder to this day why Leica has not (yet?) developped such a camera. Instead, they come up with one new camera system after the other, evidently, to protect their M dinosaurs. So, I wish Konost success.

I have one suggestion for an improvement to the concept, and that would be some kind of attachment means at the front of the finder, i.e surrounding the window frame. This would allow attaching finder accessories for wide angle and tele lens usage. Such attachment finders exist for the Leica M.

  • DouglasGottlieb

I wish this Konost was real. It seems more like a recurring April 1 prank.

But the “digital rangefinder” idea is very appealing.
