I have the old 400mm Sigma macro, and that’s a pretty great lens. This new one should be awesome.

It really wonder how can Sigma, a company with 25 times less employees than Nikon, could be so successful in lens business…

    • They sell 25 times less units (for the moment though ;))… just exaggerating, I don’t know to be true, but I guess they probably make less sales than Nikon over the world. Anyway, other brands would probably better be more inspired by the way Sigma is acting in this market.

Not really. They are very focused as a company doing a few things. Nikon has far more products and other business entities.

    • Same here, and they did that in the past few years.

Actually, it’s the other way around. Nikon only makes lenses for Nikon but Sigma, and other 3rd party manufacturers, can make their lenses to fit multiple mounts. This gives them an edge as they can spread production over those multiple mounts. Nikon and the other manufacturers have just a one mount exit stream.

So you are saying that it takes more people to make just one proprietary mount/system than it is to reverse engineer and make 5 mount/system lenses?

Excellent Art Line..but they produce really crappy cameras.

Sigma firmly (and stubbornly) believes in their Foveon sensors … cameras themselves are not all that bad … imagine for example Sigma SD Quatro with Sony full frame sensor … with F mount it would be everything Nikon FX mirrorless should be IMHO …

They would have been a lot more successful at selling their cameras if they made their cameras in Nikon and Canon lens mounts, instead of the stupidity of making them in (yet another) non-compatible lens mount of their own – thereby requiring users to buy a completely separate lens collection to use them. Non-starter for most shooters, leaving them selling to ONLY the hard core Foveon fans.

Sigma would do a lot better selling cameras if they made their cameras with Nikon and Canon lens mounts. Instead, they insisted on making (yet another) non-compatible lens mount, which requires the acquisition of an entirely separate lens collection (a non-starter for most shooters), thereby severely limiting their appeal (to ONLY the hard core Foveon fans).

Seems to me that Nikon or Canon would do everything to make it legally impossible for Sigma to use their mount on cameras, I am not really sure how BlackMagic does this with EF mount … on the other hand Sigma, unlike Nikon and Canon, offers mount conversion service … but yes it as a problem that not many people would commit to SIgma SA mount and buy or convert lenses …

Possibly, but apparently they feel the need to continue
making cameras, lest the company founder return as a zombie to exact revenge!

Maybe a new CEO with less ties to Zombies would be in order.

Looking for under 1kg Sigma 400mm f4.5 (f5.6) APO Macro Art.

  • Why not a 100-300/4 OS Sport while we’re dreaming… 🙂
The old 100-300/4 was a very good lens except for the lack of image stabilization.

  • bushkov

I’d like to buy a new 105/2 with OS.

  • sickheadache

Dear Sigma..I am a Art user…and how about a 105mm 1.4 Art. And a 200mm Art. Thanks..Keep up the excellent work. Mrs. Phyliss Stevens.
